I think the china company that made this card just replicated the FE card. Definitely has 12 pin mini. Can see it in the pics I posted.
Would be the reason it was cheap. But it runs great so far. 1950mhz undervolted by 50mv @ 62c. No overclocking yet

Holy crap these 3080's churn out some heat, under my desk is like a blow heater.

Tried playing with the voltage/frequency curve? You can drop temps by a fair margin with little to no performance hit.

I'm looking into that now and trying to get my head around it. My card (PNY) seems to top out at 75c so the actual temps are okay but if I can improve on them and reduce the heat it pumps out then even better.

One thing to remember is that if you drop the GPU temp via better cooling for example, this doesn't mean you are reducing the heat your GPU pumps out under your desk. Only dropping the power limit will help with this.

Of course, by undervolting + overclocking, you can increase the performance per watt, meaning to keep the same performance as before, you can lower the power limit.

If you set the V/F curve so that it flatlines after a given speed step/voltage, then this essentially artificially limits the power consumption of the GPU, as the boosting algorithm by the default will choose the lowest voltage for a given speed.

Once you get your head around this, you'll be able to extract the most out of your GPU and find the balance between power (i.e. heat) and performance.

Realistically lhr is not a big deal imho, have been using a RTX3090 for some time now & never use it for mining.

In fact if I was to honest about it I spend most of my time just browsing forums & only occasionally playing a game.

Your card looks great & I am sure you will enjoy it immensely.

i thought you picked one up launch night jack? (and went on the month+ waiting list)
then again 2020 already feel like a lifetime ago

i picked up a zotac amp holo 3080 pre-xmas iirc. cancelled a 5950x preorder and put cash to GPU instead

What planet are nvidia on where a 2060 gets 12gb and a 3080 has 10gb?

Cut costs by leaving the lower models with a practical amount of ram ffs

Yeah I don't really care for mining at this point, especially coming into hotter months now I wouldn't be keen on my room being a constant sauna anyway.

I have locked it to 1900mhz 925mv currently and it seems pretty happy there and quiet enough maxing out at around 68-70c. I am considering a hybrid kit or maybe a loop to crank it up a bit more but the air cooler looks pretty good in there and I don't need any excuses to spend more money :p

I had a 3080 tuf but sold the whole itx build it was in a while back. 3080 over 5950x seems wise, I am lucky to use 6 cores never mind 16 haha.

    Agreed, but:

    a) GDDR6 =/ GDDR6X
    b) 12 is bigger than 10
    c) 10Gb is plenty for 4k, let alone 12, 16 or 24

Joe public only understands point b, as evidenced by the mindless forum discussions about NVidia "crippling" the 3080 with 10 and AMD being so much better with 16.
It's probably trivial for NVidia to use 12Gb of GDDR6 at this point, and gives them a SKU difference for a relaunched 2060 that the public will see as "better" even though it will make exactly zero difference to game performance.

    Agreed, but:
    ;)

There's no logical reason to overuse ram which will only add to costs, when there is a gaping market for cards sub $800

But you can, plenty of people out there mining eth with 5600xt's/2060's

    Yeah I was mistaken.

Either way, I really don't understand NVidia - but you have to assume they have market research that shows a large section of potential consumers will genuinely think 12Gb is an attractive selling point.
