In my situation, I would have to unplug EVERYTHING and un-screw the GPU brace/bracket from the whole system and do some yoga to gently twist and pull it out. What would normally take about 30 seconds to remove for normal cases is a 15 minute job for me.

I reckon stretch for the 3070 unless power/thermals/space is an issue and if you're happy with a 2080 Super then obviously not. As a 2060 Super / 1440p owner as well, I don't think the leap to a 3060Ti would be enough.

That's what I'm thinking too, but I need to upgrade the 1060 so it's either another second hand 2060 Super if I can find one or spend a little more and pass my 2060 Super down.

Or to put it another way, would you spend ~$350 or so to upgrade a 2060 Super to a 3060 Ti ?

If you put that to me in 2016 I would have laughed but this is the post-Turing pricing era..... lol

Well if you need it now then you don't have much of a choice

From what I can see, unless you're going to for the $1,700+ units, there are more and more EVGA GPUs popping up in people's hands more than any other RTX 3080. With releases like these, we don't really have much of a choice of which specific GPU we can get our hands on.

Doubtful of 6800xt reference at $1050 happening for most people.. Looks like stock may be able to fill back orders, may... Most likely new deliveries will be AIB and they are at the same price as the 3080 AIB boards $1200-$1400. The 6800's do occasionally appear. Again, I wouldn't bet on reference 6800 staying around long at RRP.. You might get lucky and buy from someone who just wants to sell to cover costs.

Reference designs will fade away quite quickly. AIB will be more expensive.

3060ti is about as fast as a 2080 super? The issue with that is is better at things like ray tracing, but isn't really fast enough to use it usefully. DLSS might help with the extra res.... If you can grab a $650-$700 3060ti IMO thats a reasonable deal, would be a reasonable upgrade.

I've checked the framecap stuff and everything's turned off that I can see, it does jump up to over 100fps in certain areas and in others I've noticed the GPU load does actually go up to 99% but the framerate doesn't go below 57ish. The Monitor is a 60hz display so that might be the overwatch case but I couldn't really find any settings in there about that. I had a quick look in an old version of 3DMark that I still have installed from forever ago that I ran not long ago which brought the 970 to below 20fps on one test and the 3060 crushes it at over 90fps so there's definitely a big improvement in the card, I'm just kinda surprised there isn't a bigger jump in frames.

The 5820k is a haswell CPU from 2014.. If you are not utilising the whole GPU that might be why mate. 20% utilisation of a 6 core cpu does sound extremely low for modern titles (my 5900x will often enough hit that) but I am not familiar with overwatch or wow metrics. Try running 3dmark and check the graphics test score against others with similar GPUs to see if its being used properly there. A 970 to a 3060ti should be night and day.

Yeah, total percentage is a completely useless cpu metric. If the GPU aint running at or damn near 100%, something else (most likely cpu, or frame limiter) is holding it back.

Think of it like this, With 12 logical cores, Maxing out one thread (in this case, say the main game thread everything else waits on) would only read as like 8% cpu usage, yet leave the GPU doing nothing as the rest of the game can't go any faster anyway.

    For a laugh, tomb raider (2013) shows 3% cpu usage during a benchmark with a 5950x at 4.5GHz. 300-520 fps with a 1080ti at 1080p. rofl

I'm not even going to bother buying a new one anymore since I can still play most games with a Nvidia 1080.
