Pure numbers wise the difference between the two is very small compared with the last several generations, including mem bandwidth. - There's either going to be much less perf delta between them than we're used to for xx80ti vs xx80 in the past few gens, OR there's other factors at play not obvious in the specs shown, like a ROP bottleneck on the 80 for example, but I just can't imagine it. Even the TDP numbers don't help - also very close

IF they are indeed closer than normal, then it also makes me wonder how on earth a 3080ti could fit between them.. so there's a double oddity there, so am keen for this launch to solve this puzzle

I think the rumoured 3080Ti or Super is only there to combat Big Navi, which is rumoured/leaked to be comparable to a 3080. If that's the case, and AMD release it, I can see Nvidia releasing a slightly beefed up 3080 (Ti or S), with more ram and slightly faster clock speeds to beat whatever Big Navi is.

I can think of 2 ways they could play this, 3080Ti won't exist we will have 3090 instead and possibly a Titan card too down the road or 3080Ti will squeeze between 3080 and 3090 and will carry 24GB GDDR. But I find it hard to believe they would remove the Ti lineup.

Also cannot wait for tomorrow morning

Yeah no matter what it's been too long between drinks since the last decent GPU launch, good to finally get something official!

I'm mostly interested in where the 3070 lands, though it looks like it will be excluded from this announcement. If it delivers 2080ti performance for less than $1000 that could be where my money goes.

Well there had been talk about them wanting to ditch ti branding. Combined with super, it has now become a mess.

I think that Super is a bit more descriptive for non-nerds.

The 3090 has ~20% faster bandwidth over the 3080, ~20% more cores and ~60% more memory according to these numbers.
Was this a bigger gap last time?

Nvidia haven't released 2 big die gaming cards since the 570/580, so can't really compare it to the recent gens.

You'd could suspect that their efficiency is so garbage that they need to really cherry pick the 3090 silicon and the 3080s are basically 20% turned off with a lot less memory and still pumping through 320 watts - assuming they're both on the same process which seems to be likely.

Also need to consider that they probably couldn't nerf the 3080 as much as they would like if they are quite worried about AMDs performance. They really want both cards coming in above big navi.

To get a 3080/90 in time for CP2077 you think you would need to preorder straight after tomorrow mornings announcement ?

2077 is 78 days away, 6 weeks basically. Everyone knows that these cards are going to get bought for 2077 so they will be trying to ensure they come out before it does. I think if timeframes are your concern it would be sensible to decide what you want and order it immediately when it releases for pre-orders. And have a backup choice. EG my first choice is a Strix 3090 but I'd also be fine with an EVGA Black.

RAM is about all I can think of on the (Ti/Super/whatever) to differentiate them but I am not sure what real benefit that will bring over the 3080.

This is my feeling too. 3080 release - $1000 plus one kidney. Big Navi release @ 3080'ish performance - $700. Nvidia drops 3080 to $700 and release 3080 Ti/Superwhatever with new improved profitability @ $1000 plus one kidney.

Not much else to do locked up in your home I guess :D.

Yes, more like 40% for 9 through 20 series between the 80 and 80Ti's . Yes there's considerably more RAM , but that's only going to show its stuff at the extreme resolutions I think vs 10GB.

The RTX 3070 is the RTX 2080 replacement. Big jump from the 3070 up to the 3090.

Aye. There's been talk of just how stupidly convoluted their model names have gotten. GTX, RTX, Ti, Super, and then 20xx and 16xx cards, some of which are mobile-only...

Then again, stupid naming is par for the course for computer hardware, so dare Nvidia break with tradition?
