Whoever scored a $6-700 2080ti got a bargain last week.
Pity the 3080 FE doesn't OC too well!
After viewing the videos, yep, the 3080 is significantly faster than the 1080ti. Some cases double.
I've been looking at the changeover cost when looking at the upgrade. I sold my 1080ti on the weekend for $700. So if I can score a 3080 for an additional $500-700 for double performance, I'm cheering!
I don't normally watch Jay so might have to check it out. I couldn't see the detail in Techpowerup's review as to if DLSS was on or off but Control only got 48FPS at 2160p. That is pretty close to 60FPS. I am interested in seeing other reviews because I am presuming that CP2077 with everything turned on will have a similar performance impact as Control.
Hadware Unboxed did call out the DF video for setting expectations high. Not much of a difference at 4k, 70% increase on avg vs DF/Nvidia's 80% claim, but spottier at 1440p, 50% on average but as low as 20% and as high as 70% depending on the game. Still great improvements but it's that exact sort of scepticism that people were advocating. If you were expecting that 70-80% increase across the board, you've set yourself up for disappointment.
Was kind of interested to see if there was a difference between pci-e 3.0 and 4.0, good to see that there is very little difference, especially at higher resolutions.
Still holding fast at that 1500$ price point for the top tier brands.
Seems 1440p is still the sweet spot for this generation of cards;
Screenie from Linus's review.
Is pcie 3.0 a bottleneck?
It "suffers" at a ~1% performance cost lol
Short answer, no.

Jay didn't have a comparison that I can see. This means that DLSS is a pretty good thing and I would probably be happy with a 3080, either FE or slightly overclocked since I am only running a 60Hz monitor. That makes me happy because the price difference between 3080 and 3090 is kind of steep.
What I would be most interested to see are benchmarks in the soon to be updated Witcher 3.
Pretty excited that coming from my 1070, I'm going to be roughly trippling my frame rate in nearly every game Massive boost!!
Then no problem for intel users
Yep, seeing my 1080 land so low in these benchmarks makes me want to upgrade all that more haha
Hmm a fair few reviewers have noted the coil whine in the FEs
The GeForce RTX 3080 does exhibit some coil squeal. Is it annoying? Hmm, it's at a level you can hear it. In a closed chassis that noise would fade away in the background. However, with an open chassis, you can hear coil whine/squeal.
so - a question that becomes relevant for me as I have a freesync 100hz 34" and a Acer 34p Gsync 120hz.
Does gsync matter is with these new cards if I will be exceeding 120hz in my games of choice?
Yeah 3 German reviewers noticed it too. A gent on reddit have summarised these reviews (computerbase.de, igorslab.de, pcgameshardware.de) - https://www.reddit.com/r/AMD_Stock/comments/itv5sr/clocks_of_3080_are_lower_than_2080_tis/g5guhuv/ - a quick decent read if you are in a rush.
It's a good summary, definitely making me rethink importing the FE.
Idgi none of the retailers have any info on the cards and isn't it launching today? I know some have sign ups for announcements but is it all happening today? Comms around this launch is fucking terrible.
Only ppl to do any comms has been Mwave cause theyve been bestowed the FEs..
Everything goes live 11pm aest today. Not a second before
It's all under NDA from Nvidia apparently
This is the big thing. Every news site has said 17th but it's basically American 17th and our 18th. It's so disorganized.
R.i.P trying to play cyberpunk 2077 @4k 120hz.
Maybe its time to go back to 1440p till gpus can finally catch up to higher hz 4k. I guess averaging 90fps in alot of 4k titles is still pretty good. Just not the perfect i was hoping for, and i cant see the 3090 being the bohemoth we need to get to 120fps or 144fps
