why would non FE cards, if they can't actually better, the nvidia heatsink/fans and temps just use the same setup? surely metal and fans and their placements are not copyrighted. and even if there is some such nonsense, surely nvidia would let them use the same "setup" to not cause themselves harm from overheating cards and bad public reaction.

you're suggesting that only nvidia can make these cards cool enough and the retail versions from asus et al will just not be able to keep them as cool with 3 fans or whatever. i doubt that, but if so, wtf is stopping them from using the same type of fans (front/back) and same fins and exact "X" shape, etc, and just differentiate with colors, rgb bullshit and bundled games etc..

Do you know anything about copyright infringement? Of course Nvidia would have chucked a copyright and Paten on their design to stop anyone copying it, same as any other company would have one on theirs, think of it in terms of cars, even tho some of them use the same engine, no company in their right mind is going to allow another company the option to copy their own design directly

Also not to mention, even tho it is a FE card it is Nvidias own AIB, it is not the reference design

The odd thing about the FE/AIB situation this go is that Nvidia is competing directly with AIB's.. they've released a reference design and then not followed it themselves. But stock is super limited for FE.. it's weird as.

This isn't the first time vendors have had to eject 300W+ out of cards, I'm sure they know what they're doing. If the designs are rushed and inadequate then we'll see that in reviews and wait for subsequent revisions. For those who are locked and loaded for a blind F5 frenzy at 11pm, godspeed :leet:

Well, I'm happy. I do grown-up stuff with my 'puter, not gaming, and early reviews seem to say that it lives up to the hype with regards to productivity tasks.

Not with the borderline non-existent stock numbers, the FE cards are only there to garner better reviews and to set the official pricepoints, not to satisfy the customer demand.

What are with all these ugly designs - shroud plastic sticking out?

edit: FYI - not sure if 'shroud plastic sticking out' is the right term, hehe.

FE cards are NVIDIA's own design and not for any AIB's to sell and set the high water mark, not even remotely similar to the boards AIB's will use... NVIDIA will have spent far longer designing these cards during the entire development process while AIB's would have got the final product and last minute designs to get coolers made and shipped out the door ASAP. They don't get advanced access to this stuff during development to prevent leaks to the public.

It has already been confirmed that the FE has a higher power limit than the base AIB reference cards. NVIDIA have historically done this so the reference design cant beat their FE cards.I can also guarantee you the cooling solutions on the AIB cards will basically be slapped on with very little in the way of long term testing or thought into the designs There simply isn't enough time to meet the launch deadlines. That is why the custom cards aren't ready yet.

It has also been confirmed that the FE coolers are premium and expensive to make. AIB's don't give 2 shits about quality, they want the cheapest, nastiest coolers they can make for maximum profits.
