    Waiting to see ETA's, if PLE are going to keep my cash for extended periods I might cancel and just wait out until stock settles.

    I'd rather them delay for 2-4 weeks the release date and actually have supply than this bullshit.

    An arm and a dick.

    But more realistically, it'll be the same ballpark as the FTW3. They can't justify a higher price unless it performs significantly better. ASUS sure lucked out when EVGA scored an own goal with their design tho. I'm just glad I have a simple black case and I won't have to look at mine.

    Why would they cancel? Then they have to refund - better to just string y'all along for 3 months while rolling around in piles of interest free money.

    And now Oculus have released the Quest 2.... so I gotta go buy that instead :).

    I suspect it was a strategy by PLE to get market share. Good on them for taking a punt.

    If they make 5% margin on 4500 orders. That's surely better than 20% margin on 100 orders.

    Good managerial thinking if that was the case.

    Well, is this the way it works?

    3080 memory bus is 320bit with 10Gb and as we know, 10 x 1GB modules
    3090 memory bus is 384bit with 24GB. Could this be 12 x 2GB modules? (the bus width increase suggests 12 modules. 384/320 = 12/10)

    Therefore a 3080 with 10 x 2GB modules would still have the same memory bus width, but 20GB in total? To go to 12 modules instead of 10 would have to increase the bus width, so 10 x 2GB is more likely than 12 x 1GB?

    Assuming they can actually deliver in any kind of reasonable timeframe and don't piss off a good portion of 4000 people and have to hand their money back to them along with any hope of future business :Pirate:

    Missed out on the EVGA FTW3 Ultra last night from PLE. Had it in cart but couldn't get further than that. At the beginning It was saying expected early October then went out of stock so I stopped trying. Now it seems like they have stacks of back orders, most of which I'm guessing will be EVGA based on pricing.

    I'm looking at the FTW3 specifically as it is the shortest top tier card that will fit in my case (Meshify C, so only have 315mm to play with).

    Maybe it's a blessing in disguise though and I can ride this out, see what the 3090 has to offer or whether AMD competition drives down prices.

    If memory serves, for the 3090, those 12 memory slots are filled and the remaining 12 are on the back of the PCB. So if same logic goes for a 20gb 3080, there'll be 10 on the back of the PCB. From what I've read, Micron wont have 2gb chips until next year some time, at which point it would be an option to switch these in to manufacturing for 20gb models.

    The 3090 apparently has modules on the back, so points towards 24 x 1GB.

    Ah, so just double everything then?

    3080 = 320bit bus, 20 x 0.5GB modules? and
    3090 = 384bit bus, 24 x 1GB modules?
    384/320 = 24/20.

    The 3090 has chips on both sides of the PCB. I understand the concept at at high level but am not certain if that means that each pair of chips shares a "bit"? Happy to go and read/learn on my own but my theory is just guessing really based on what I saw in the video.

    Are you me? lol. I put in an order for the FTW3 ultra for that exact reason, meshify c case limitations. Paid by bank transfer though as suggested by other so not handing over cash until there is more certainty over stock.

    Normally they'd do a 24gb 3090 with 2gb modules, but from what I've read they're not avaliable yet for gddr6x, so instead it has 24 modules with 12 on the back of the card, partly why it's so expensive (but mostly just to fleece). Once there are 2gb modules are avaliable they could do it for cheaper or a 20gb 3080.
    Yes 2gb modules have same bandwidth still bus width as you said, same is if you bought a 8gb 5500xt model vs a 4gb model.

    edit beaten to it!
