Awesome! Welcome to the club
Every connector is a resistor/impedence and depending on the quality can have quite the effect. So is cable length. Longer the cable the more you lose. Higher voltages help this, which is why power lines are run in the KV range. But 12v isn't much, and the amount of current these things draw is HUGE. Cable quality and size come into play aswell as thermals. What was fine 5-10 years ago mightn't be up to snuff
yup sell off your 2x8pin lemon and get the cheapest 3x8pin you can find, msi trio x will work with the strix oc bios perfectly, or colourful advanced oc 3090
What gauge is the wire in them?
It would basically be this kit, so 18AWG.
Oh man absolutely. For me it wasn't anywhere near justified.
Just had a rather fun weekend tinkering with my new 3090, I was pretty happy with the OC numbers on my Zotac Trinity, even if it did get a bit of an annoying whine on the fans when they were spun right up. Got to +160 on the core before I started having issues and my poor fractal S2 case was getting very toasty inside.
After that I tried undervolting on a basic curve and got very similar numbers to my +150 offset overclock on timespy, port royal, fire strike and superposition.. With a much longer time to hit thermal equilibrium and less noise on the fans.
The undervolt I have I think ranges between 100mv and 150mv below stock depending on where in the curve it is, and I think it has more to give when I get some time.
I have the colourful advanced oc 3090, overclocked in tower case gets to about 60C in o/c bench marks.
Would using the strix bios give me any significant improvement if i am staying on air cooling.....just removed all my water cooling & never going back (should not have said that).
How safe/easy is it to change the bios?
I made that statement, ripped out all my custom water gear, went with an x72 (AIO)for CPU. And here I am now thinking, "I swore off OC and the hassle of it...but what if I was just to do custom WC for the GPU?" haha
Who would have thought MWave would need to advertise 3000 series as in stock on their FB page. Perhaps the 3070 not selling as expected?
For the price the 3070s just don't seem that appealing to me. If they were around $800 I think they would fly.
I think it's that 1K price mark.....people believe it should be placed somewhere between $800 and $1K. Over 1K? No way. Even over $900 still too pricey imo.
I thought the same, but seems like the FTW3 is limited to 450 W by PCIE power cus of a fk up? ~8 mins into this video - maybe it only applies to the 3090?
Unlikely use case of pushing past 450 W but if you’re wanting the top boi...
Why aren't they cheaper?
They are a shit card IMHO, forget comparing to old gen, for new gen being 3rd in the tier, they are not that good with crappy VRAM for more money than flagships went for in the past.
Garbage. I think $600 is fair price, and that's AUD.
3090's in stock...
Not really.. I paid 2.3k for my 2080ti (Im silly yes )
People with a <$1k budget who could only dream of such performance might not think so
Beautiful looking card, but holy shit how big is it.....makes my 3080 look small
we all did it .
you know what I mean, performance ways we see it before
