Shows that they released the card in Ti name only to try to compete against the 6800 and have nowhere else to go with the name... fucked up bad by not just releasing the 8gb model as a 3060

So now there will be a 3060 with more vram than the 3070, an absolute joke lol

Not surprised. The IT industry in general has been terrible with naming schemes ever since it decided 1024 was close enough to 1000 to use the SI Prefix "kilo"
(and I'll complain about this until eternity)

3090 is only 12-14% faster than a 3080 at more than 200% of the price. It's literally the stupidest product of 2020.

Lord knows what a 3080Ti will do, 6-8% faster than a 3080 for $500 more? Stupidest product of 2021.

Bit of a lol moment for vram allocation in their product structure for sure but the 3060 variants lack gddr6x and therefore a good portion of the bandwidth a 3080 has.

6900XT is also very stupid ;)

Theres been frequent commentary in this thread about "wait for 3080Ti" but it makes no sense from a value proposition. If it's $999 USD, the 3080 will still be the far better buy, even for 4K. By the time VRAM for textures at 4K becomes a real struggle with "only 10GB" (lol) the 4080 will be out....

It's nearly half the price of the 3090 though lol, hell it's cheaper than a lot of 3080 models (if you can find one)

Still on a 2080Ti that I bought back in 2018 and I couldn't be more glad that I am skipping this generation and waiting for the next range of cards (4000 series) or whatever to come out before upgrading.

The primo skip was 20 series really... besides the disastrous stock issues.

Yeah it's "better value" than a 3090 but still poor value compared to 3080 and 6800XT.

    I went 1070 to 3080 - around 200% increase!

Out of the box, sure. But these cards are so power constrained it isn't funny. If you want to play silly buggers with unlocked bioses, especially at higher resolution it's a different story. They do have 20% more cudas which can translate to 20% more performance when unconstrained and fully utilised.

If you treat the 3090 like a Titan was in previous generations, the handful less cudas and difference in bandwidth didn't really make much difference between the Ti and Titan models. I think as long as the Ti has enough memory bandwidth it's probably going to be within a few percent if not basically the same as the 3090 but for 500USD less. This means those $3000 Strix 3090's will be more like $2200... And instead of ~ $2500 for cheapo Galax cards, maybe $1800 or so? Similarly priced to the 6900 XT, which is what it will be competing against.

It's just the same old story, but the margins are definitely closer than they have been in the past.

They're really actually not power constrained. Go and have a look at the people that have done shunt mods on the 3080s and 3090s pulling 500 - 600w. It nets them maybe 5% over the overclocked (but not voltage modded) cards. Not exactly power constrained in my book.

As for 3080 vs 3090 - it's a 15% uplift. It doesn't matter what BIOS, voltage or wattage you run. 15% performance increase for a 100% price increase. Like Beast said - dumbest product of 2020. The 3080Ti certainly won't change that.

I'm no fan of the RTX 3090 but I do have some experience with them, also you don't need to shunt mod them these days you can flash a 1000W bios onto them if you want, even on a 2x8pin. My point was that an RTX 3080 Ti at a similar performance level but priced more reasonably would still make sense, 12-14% + maybe 5% with more power still isn't fucking around if you need the performance. I would go for an $1800 RTX 3080 Ti Galax SG over an $1800 RTX 3080 Strix OC any day.

hmm im getting like at least 10fps less. 30-40fps mostly, 50 in a good scene with my CRG9

running watercooled but stock clocked 9980xe and 3090. the 3090 max boost is only 1900mhz but most of the time it runs 1700-1800mhz. CPU runs at 3.8ghz boost

Keep an eye on other stores for Strix OC.... if umart got 1 or a couple, likely other stores did too.

Just bought an AMD 6800 reference card to get me through the next few months (after I gave my RTX2070 to a mate) ... going to wait for all this stock bullshit to resolve. If it ever does.

Will see how I go, I might end up sitting this gen out. I'm a bit over it :)

You have bought a current generation card, there is no sitting it out now  Hope you enjoy mate, honestly if I picked up a 6800 or 3070 etc I'd be done until the next release at least too.
