Perhaps cj and him can fight it out in the game of bs crystal ball.

    Both as dramatic as eachother.

PS C.J: Citation needed re bleeding cash.

amd have been loosing hundreds millions over the last few years(over year) its public info as AMD is a public company with their financials released quarterly.

but if you cant use google heres a link

    http://ir.amd.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=74093&p=irol-reportsannual

they are a sinking ship, raja could see the failure on the wall, rtg will be sold off just like their fabs to keep the lights on over at amd.

they have lost 400+ m each year for over 4 years -- one quarter does not make a year. for released results so far they are still in negative territory.

    Well I did it..

I bought a NVidia Graphics card for the first time since my Geforce4..

Ebay had a 20% off sale so picked up a brand new 1060GTX 3GB for $230aud delivered. Which I thought was a good deal. It didn't seem much more than a 1050Ti.

I expecting it to be quite the upgrade from my 7950, particularly in Adobe creative Suite 6 in Premier, which doesn't support AMD gpus, so should see a *huge* boost there. Nearly twice as fast, uses less power and less heat (going into an ITX case), and cuda cores.
More importantly it the first stage of building my new (2nd) ITX box.

does anyone have a guide for noobs on that voltage slider and 1080ti overclocking? im following peoples screenshots and 3d mark still crashes once i go over 1970+ core

im guessing memory overclocks wont be affected by the voltage slider right?

i assume you're talking about the slider in msi afterburner?

basically just chuck the power target up to 120%, i'm fairly certain the core voltage slider doesn't work with out a custom bios (or maybe physical shunt mods) as the pascal cards are voltage locked.

does it only crash in 3d mark but is stable in games? could just be hitting the limits of the actual card... what temps are you getting with those kind of clocks?

Try a different driver or reinstall the driver, my Titan Xp now will crash while running FSE,FSU and FS with core frequency over 1970 like you do after recent update, no crash issues with TS and TSE though I can still overclock the card to 2050 MHz and finish entire benchmark without problems. My Titan X Pascal back then will always crash if I attempt to oc the memory which was resolved with a different driver.

yeah the slider in "evga precision" actually but they are the same bar the skin? temps hover around 65 degrees on 40% fan

first i cranked up power and temp to max then found a good overclock via benching unigine and 3dmark [timespy plus firestrike]
then cranked up volts to max as my thermals were ok but crashes even 10mhz more in 3d mark
so looked up the manual volts setting and some guy had success at 2100 so copied his settings to a more conservative 2000mhz but BAM crashes after a mins or two in unigine supersition or 3dmark

brand new build windows 10 so never had an older driver or an older EVGA precision software

never played games past my 1970 core as i wasn't trusting it to not crash in games either

What driver version would you recommend or am i better off getting an evga bios update

I am currently running 385.69 WHQL and my Titan Xp could run 3D Mark benchmarks with this driver without issues before all the new windows fall updates being installed.

There were some rumors that the next architecture was going to be called Ampere, supposedly it is going to be announced at GTC in March

I actually did a test cart on the site a few days back, doesn't seem to take it on the AU version? Odd.

They went with the 1070-Ti to go with the 1050-Ti and 1080-Ti, so it's possible they'll do a 1060 version... but I don't see the market for it honestly, just make the 1070 cheaper!

I'm already hanging out for the 2080-Ti or equivalent, high Hz 1440p gaming is such a drag on hardware, but the good news is the Mrs gets the 1080-Ti so she can go 4k :D
