What other add ons do I need?

I have connected the shield to my PC using the USB cable.

How do I get my shield to play files directly from my PCs HDD?

    Thanks :)

I have a 3090 watercooled in the gaming PC.

The HTPC is for movies only

oh sorry totally misread your question...lol

setup the drive or folder to share on the network and then just add it into kodi. you could use other programs but since you have kodi already.
no need to connect it to the pc via usb.

Don't I need to connect the shield to the HTPC via USB for it to see the HDD?

ive never done it that way and not sure if you could.
what i was suggesting was to share the drive or folder on the htpc, then add it as a source in kodi and do the scrapes to make it look all pretty.
you could also add the network share in the shield, but it just looks like file explorer style so no fancy covers etc.

but if you have a htpc already, why do you need the shield tv?

Connect the shield via ethernet or wifi, share your PC HDD then add to Kodi via SMB
