This is obviously a enterprice / workstation bridge card, much the same way the Vega FE is/was. Its an absolute bargain when you compare it to Quadro P6000 and Tesla cards.

Hopefully early next year.. I was thinking of getting GTX1070 or GTX1080 but think I'm gonna wait little longer.

I bet it's gonna be super fast on benchmarks, so they can probably sell the spare card to other rich dumb-asses for $3000s.

These are not gaming cards - if you buy one for gaming you are stupid

It achieves 150MH/s on Excavator mining Lyra2Rev2 vs 1080ti's 70MH/s but for the same power draw. Its not bad at the US retail price guess it all comes down to how much Australia tax will be.

If I'm understanding correctly I believe this is also just a further iteration of maxwell-pascal

We'll see what the GTX family give us hopefully in a few months. With any hope AMD will have something in the pipeleline to keep pricing reasonable - but at this stage it looks unlikely.

Sortoff an Iteration, but with plenty of new features. Less discussed than than the new tensor cores is nerdtechgasm pointed out in a comment to adoredtv's video on the Titan V that volta adds alot better scehduler / async compute / dynamic switching capablities, bringing it a lot closer to the current AMD GCN architecture. I haven't been able to work out whether it's an actual dedicated hardware scheduler like GCN as yet or still software based. Whether consumer volta/ampere gets any of that or is just another DX11 targeted card we'll see.

I guess we won't know for another 3-4 months but do you think GTX1180 will be similar to GTX1080Ti performance(but 180W TDP instead of 250W TDP)?

My guess would be similar to that. It will probably beat the 1080 Ti by about 5-10%, just enough that they can claim the new fastest gaming card but without undercutting their 1180 Ti too much. I'm not as confident of the TDP because it's only a partial node shrink.
