What's an affordable board for office work these days, so not blues obviously
Honestly I haven't found any problems with it... I'm not a heavy user though
look a few pages back, there are boards from about 80+ - look at ducky as an option with mx browns or reds
I recommend Leopold. Pushes you into the $150 mark. But they are the best off the shelf boards all round IMO (an opinion that is shared by many) you can also get them with Silent Mx Red's. FC980m is the model you want if you want a full board, you can get them from mwave.
Thanks all I'll have a look!
+1 for Ducky - built like a tank and lovely to type on.
Anyone looking to dip their toes in custom boards this is an amazing deal!
$137USD delivered with MX blacks as a kit or 152 assembled. No keycaps though. But its a steal with a 1 piece Alu body and QMK firmware.
FWIW: $15 shipping for www.pccasegear.com
FC900R (don't want that squashed up crap )
On the contrary you dont want that bulky crap
On a related note, I wouldn't mind a new work keyboard of some sort...
I'm a mechanical keyboard noob but:
I want full size keyboard (use my numpad all the time)
Can't be loud - was thinking brown switches
Volume control would be handy (listen to a lot of music at work)
Was thinking there are two options:
a) buy something which has caps I like, e.g
Ducky One 2 Skyline
Varmilo VA108M Panda
Leopold FC900R PD Blue & Grey
Filco Majestouch 2 Camouflage R Multicam
(yes I'm a ricer at heart)
problem with these is there is no volume control... [EDIT: just saw the Ducky does...]
b) buy something plain (possibly cheaper?) and then get the caps I like
Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?
I'm a software developer / gamer and I went keyboard shopping in Akihabara, Tokyo for a quiet but tactile full-size mechanical RGB keyboard. A friend suggested I take a look at topre switch keyboards as I kept talking about quiet. I left with a Realforce 87-USB silent black 10 key-less aka SE170S. The full-size version of that keyboard would be an obvious choice ie Realforce XF11TS, its model is something like 104UB or 104USB.
The price is high ($300AUD in person in Japan if you get the tax removed at the purchase point and your passport stamped) but if you keep it 20 years...
I wouldnt change the keycaps either. Leopold caps are top tier.
Thanks for the comments @sia@home
So Leopold and just live without having a volume control?
And silent reds you say.. hmm..
I was thinking I'd prefer a tactile switch rather than linear (hence brown)
I should probably go test a few and see what I actually like...
Maybe just a red Esc key?
Browns are not really tactile tbh. YOu will barely feel the bump and since you will be at work silent switches will help keep your coworkers happy.
In terms of a volume knob... thats what the Fn key is for. And trust me once you have a leopold the only knob you'll want to touch is your own because of how sexy your board is.
I agree - Browns are not really tactile. If you want tactile you want blues or something else...
Rofl. SS, I think it is time you went outside for a while.
Haha - agreed - ok maybe silent reds is what I should get then
I have a Gigabyte Aivia Osmium. Just bought it off here from Chylld83.
Some of it I absolutely love - The volume and illumination scroll wheels are grouse, all of the passed through ports work well for my set up and being back with browns over my old Dell OEM keyboard is grouse (might need to add some O rings but that's OK) and all in all it does almost exactly what I need - Except for one gleaming problem.
1) It's used with MacOS. I need the right hand Command key (Windows key). Need it. Instead it has some "Win Lock" key which turns off the Windows key, I assume so that you don't exit your game when gaming.
2) All of the G keys are wasted, I have no way to map to them
3) The flashing RGB Gigabyte logo sucks and I hate it.
3 - can be fixed with some snippy snippy, no problems.
2 - Eh, i'll deal
But 1... I keep turning my Command key off and it's royally annoying having only the left command key. I need my right hand Command key back.
Would there be a hacky way to fix it or do I need to sacrifice this board and build a custom one to my specs, reusing the switches and keycaps - And if so, would there be a way to implement the volume and illumination scroll wheels?
