we got over 1000 users on citrix, a few sql servers. Virtualization is not something we actually depend on so for now 3.5 is OK, we have licenses for 4.0 and in time we might consider moving forward but for now everything works OK and we don't have the spare resources or time to start looking into more than the task at hand.

maybe next year we will run some 4.1 boxes and see how they go but it's not a priority, we are also not bound to any virtualization technoloy eg. vmware/xen/hyper v/kvm whatever comes out of the feasibility report is the way we go but as i said that part of the IT is working fine and we'll keep it the way it is, it will be interesting to see how much better 4.1 is thou

Was it a difficult script to write?

It's not a particularly difficult script to write, just make sure you test it thoroughly.

A local government I did some contracting work at implemented a similar thing one time, but the script failed to remove the snapshot. Took 3 days to fill their LUN and crash the machine. Then about 5 hours to commit the snapshot with their Exchange server down.

At what point does VMware die in the ass?

    10, 100, 1000 hosts?
    Any other levels of complexity?
So I know for future reference. :D

Good day at Vforum.. seems many more people there this year than last. I was on the Cisco stand presenting UCS and Nexus1kV. If you're there tomorrow, come on over for a demo/overview/chat :D

Was alright, spoke to a few people but already did business with some of them so it was all good. Found a couple of guys I used to work with and only headed into 3 sessions. Wish I could go for the whole time. There was heaps of people there but it's my first vForum so I'm not sure if that is normal or not :p

Also it was great to see Andre Leibovici's session, his blog and twitter has helped me out a fair bit!

I gotta be honest and say the Vmware forum is probably the least useful of the year.

All of the sessions are really fluffy and non-technical. Great for Managers and CIO's maybe but for a Sys Admin like me I find it boring hearing the word cloud 10000 times. I want to know how something works etc.

Unfortunately I couldn't go today as well, it looked like the sessions were a bit more technical today. I had a good chat with a guy at the Cisco stand though.

Also, lots of promo models.. different.

Doesn't beat the Symantec conference though, that was the best IMO.

Anyone have any ideas on this little issue I'm having with VUM Agent.

I have the VUM agent installed on a 2k8R2 Host and I have another host that refuses to install/acknowledge the agent is able to be installed... says not supported OS but it is!! It works on the other host with the same OS. I've installed it manually but it refuses to see it and scan.. Any ideas? Using 4.1 vCenter and the latest VUM Agent.

Heh, was that me you were chatting with? :) I spoke with so many people I've lost track..

The promo girls were wonderful. Made hanging around the stand for 8 hours bearable. Between our two girls and the EMC Cheerleaders opposite, I had a great two days :D

Nah, that was one of the local SE's :) I couldn't believe the crowds.. every time I'd start talking to someone about UCS, I'd look up and there would be 20 people standing around.
