Sigh, *fourth* month I've rung up about my bill.

About $25 worth of credits and over an hour worth of phone calls for the lose, (N).

question for you guys - I just bought a 2nd hand vodafone branded w880i from a fellow forum member that is unlocked. When I put my 3 sim in it just says 'insert sim'.. Are the 3 sims not compatible with these phones or something..?
I tried a friend's optus sim in it and it works fine. And my 3 sim works fine in my nokia 6120c..

Can I get a new sim from 3 that will work? I'm on a 3 post paid contract.

the w880 is a 3g 2100mhz handset so it will work with 3 (besides which, 3 also sold it). it could be a sim issue - get the sim swapped over (costs nothing; go to your nearest store). or it could be something shady...... zOMG! 1984 IZ REAL!!!!11

    :)

If the phone's unlocked, there shouldn't be any reason it won't read the USIM. (Since the w880i is a 3G phone. You definitely put it in the right way around, right?).

It's likely the USIM is faulty - head into a 3 store and they can replace it for you (for free), and if that still doesn't work, sounds like there's something wrong with the handset.

I read somewhere quite some time ago that there's a few types of sim cards and some types only work with certain brand phones etc..

Anyway, cheers for the info, will go in to the store and check it out.

Now is there a way to get the vodafone firmware off the w880i..?

Hmmmm, just wondering... Thinking about getting an e71, currently on a 2year plan on $29 cap.
I am 1 year and 2months into the contract, so 10months left.
    a) when is the "loyalty" period thing where they let you upgrade phone?
    b) what's the advantage/disadvantage of buying the phone outright unlocked from a shop, compared to having it "3"branded
    c) can you join those "3 iphone plans" with an E71? say if i wanted to use the net with it?

    Thanks!

It doesn't say iPhone ONLY and looking at the post on the bottom of page 360 it looks promising. It would be worth ringing customer care to be sure - when you have some time to spare.
