A friend put me on to this earlier this week,

    http://ogame.org

    To quote the homepage

"OGame is a strategic space simulation game with thousands of players across the world competing with each other simultaneously. All you need to play is a standard web browser."

Basically it is a space strategy game on a pretty large scale. Things happen slowly in the game so you can check on your progress 6 or seven times over the course of a day, spend a few minutes each time allocating resources, or sending off attacks and then checking up on how they went later. There seems to be a pretty large community 30 odd universes each with about 3000 players. At this point im enjoying it as a break from mmorpgs.

Playing the game is not that natural at first, however if you read the forums there is good help and lots of guides.

    GaZ

edit: It is free to play but there are micropayment options that give you a slight boost in certain areas

Have fun with it, but be warned. Once you get passed the initial parts it can be a huge black hole for time.

Its fun at first but unfortunately what I found was once you get up to the levels where you no longer have noob protection, you pretty much need to be sitting there all day otherwise you get raped.

What structure is built to initiate 'rape'? I'm guessing its a shipyard. I am currently levels 3-8 on the 4 main structures and have a Research Lab.

This game allows 2 or more members to log in and play under the same IP address (we have 3 at work), but you need to email the developers. However, we received an email that says you can't do 'fleet access' which I am guessing is something to do with the Admiral.

Seems interesting, I've always liked space games. Would have preferred more of a trading slant but oh well.

    Started an alliance on there.

Need to be careful with this one as they are paranoid about people running multiple accounts to get an advantage. Your pretty much best to run in different universes, as pretty much any interaction might result in a ban.

Fleets are when you combine your ships with someone elses for raiding another planet, or to defend your own planet.

Bit early for you guys but there is a good combat simulator here which you pretty much use to evaluate if its worth raiding another planet.

This site seems to be down at the moment. Dont know if it will come up again, but it was usefull for sharing intel on planets that you probe, with other people in your aliance.

You can also find some good tips here

I will probably end up a turtle from reading those tips :p

We are in the same universe and have 3 very different emails and names registered to the game, plus we got the reply email saying it was ok. It probably won't be ok if its an automated deletion system like LPC. So far 3 days and we are still all playing, but I wonder whats going to happen when we start building fleets!
