They had plugged a new SAN in, setup replication with the source and destination the wrong way around ;).

Someone tripped over the power lead again.

Reports just in, live from Telstra Chatswood exchange, a qualified 457 Visa technician using a USB powered coffee maker he just received from Aliexpress, which was connected to the HP storage unit was amazed at how quickly the fire started, all he wanted was an espresso while waiting for the replication to complete.

    4 days and counting.

I'd hate to be the poor onsite hp tech. He must be getting slammed.

At least it would've been fast, all those 0's compress and de-dupe really well and the RAID parity calcs are easy.

With the 2.5W you get from a USB port, I'd be surprised too, unless it was wrapped in flash paper tied up with det cord.

Maybe Telstra use Iranian made switches, and stuxnet got it?

So im a little late but the word on the street i hear is that it was a very similar failure to the first one and now the ATO is effectively going to scale up there lab infrastructure (massively upscale ) and move the prod workloads on to it as its a very different architecture and doesn't seem to fall over all the time.

I have way more details but im not going to tell.....lol

That's ok, they're paying PWC to review the incident so I'm sure for the few hundred thousand it'll cost for the report that we'll see the truth..... :p

I really don't know of anyone else left running HPE storage kit these days, it's all Hitachi / NetApp and EMC with a smaller scattering of the smaller systems.

So when they say this has never happened anywhere in the world before, its because it hasn't. Its you that's running it.

    BESPOKE SAN, GET SOME.

Nice to see that things at the ATO are as busy as ever.

I hope no one was counting on getting their tax returns in a hurry

Contractor scrambling to restore from back-up.

A major outage to the Australian Taxation Office's online systems on Thursday was caused by another failure of a storage network, except this time with the ATO's other main IT contractor, Leidos.

Egads Man, you can't pretend to have inside knowledge and then not share.

    Not Cool.

I'd be looking at whoever appointed HPE as the lead contractor.

    nah fuck that.

At this point its all the ATO.

what are we? 4 or 5 major site outages in 6 months. Thats 110% the ATO.

If it was a bank or whatever, they flat out wouldn't exist.

because you're leading with inference that you have inside info...

At this point its not Leidos or HPe's fault. They've already shown to be clearly shithouse - its the ATO's fault for inaction that continues to allow this kind of thing to happen.

Nope, not a chance, I'm not allowed. but I am in a position to laugh at so called news publications that actually publish rubbish.

I got home from work on thursday and must have read 5-6 articles about it, until I realised I was reading the exact same rubbish being cut'n'paste from one site to the next.

I'm just here mourning the death of journalism really, clearly the wrong thread to do it so I'm out.

Fuck you talk some shit. It's like NAB never had outages or left their customers unable to get paid or get money out.

It's as if Sony never had a big outage due to a massive security incident.

Yep let's just act like ATO going down three times (One of those was a few hours) is the worst thing to happen in IT.
