I haven't had a TV for about 8 years as I ran monitors and projectors for everything I watched until my recent purchase at Good Guys of the LG 65" E8 (RRP $7099, $4,765 @ Fyshwick Canberra). Completely blown away with the picture quality as well as the black levels. During some cut scenes in TV/movies when the screen goes black I thought the TV had turned itself off! I've even used the wireless display on Surface Pro to the TV and I was very impressed with the quality of the image. Apparently the TV can do 4K@120Hz with PC connection so I'm looking forward to see how PC games look on the big screen.
As far as brightness I guess I'm used to crappy projector levels so I really don't see any brightness issues with the OLED screens even with curtains open on a bright day. At night I have to choose a darker picture mode because it is too bright on standard settings.

On another note I didn't realise that Samsung has dedicated salespeople in stores because I had a guy at The Good Guys trying to sell me the Samsung Q9 series and he kept saying "Our TV's do this...." and "Our TV's do that...."

Anyway, highly recommend the LG OLED screens and from the reviews they still are the best in the market.

I do however find that when playing some of the lower quality videos that it is important to change the picture mode as you get noise/artifacts in the black scenes.....but changing the picture mode can really improve the overall experience.

Picked up and now installed : )

Had to get the old crappy 50" JVC off the wall and in with the LG. Pretty straight forward job, just a straight swap.

Picked up the 65" C8 from goodguys 20% off last Sunday. Was happy with it, until 20 minutes ago, when it powered off while watching Rick n Morty, and won't power on again. Standby led, few clicks (relays I guess?) and nothing.

Old Saumsung 46" 9 years and going strong, kinda hoped the LG would last more than 7 days.

Unfortunate but things do die occasionally. LG returns through retailer should be good.

The store will consider 7 days to be DOA, you'll get it swapped for a brand new one.

People might want to stay away from the latest LG firmware on 8 series as there apparently have been some settings issues. Just a headsup. Do your investigations for more info.
