Done with Dodo Adsl2 (Resold telstra network.)

Optus seems better than my dodo/telstra adsl. I'm going to go ahead and order optus then I'll run some tests and report back.

Yes in Syd. My optus order has gone in, waiting for install date. I'll be keeping Telstra ADSL for one month to compare.

Any sites/services people want me to test?

I just remember the massive issues people had with Optus cable and overseas routing, talking around 2008 where people trying to play WoW had 600ms+ ping and Optus just said "soz not our fault"

*if* I was both an Optus HFC and a T/Bigpond HFC cable internet techy...

I would rewire the line from the pole out the front of my house to use the existing Optus infrastructure.

    ... if that was legal.

Cable got installed yesterday. Currently on 30mbps

So far. Locally I can saturate the link with one thread.

Internationally nntp does not saturate the link. (I have 62mbps allocated. Get about 1.3 MB/s)

Torrents it is very easy to saturate the link. The only problem is lack of upload speed for seeding to get ratios above 1.0.

Telstra would have the same problem as they are offering the same upload.

    Pings are very low.

Verdict so far: Installation was quick. The link can be saturated when used properly. Torrents > Nntp

Is that just because you have Optus points in your house and Telstra want to charge you to run new lines?

Strange, IIRC, me and a mate on Optus get capped at 150KB/s using torrents, once it hits something like 11PM all good, they definitely throttle it, no questions about it.

    Just got Telstra Cable installed.

    4.5MB down
    0.15MB up

Will upload be any better when they route NBN through the cable infrastructure or is it just an artificial cap?

I did ask for 100, will have to give them a call and make sure it's right.

Will retest when it's not peak hours. Got it going just as all the kiddies get home from school.

Dude, keep on them and you will get a discount.

They did the same to me, i asked for 100mbit, and they gave me 30. They went back through the call and gave me 100mbit for 30mbit price.

That's a good score, it seems they usually just give you a one off discount of your install fee or something similar.

Its because i was like, yea i want telstra "ultimate" cable. "yea the 100mbit one".
I said it several times. They still gave me cable "elite".
