From Studio Mainframe Industries - will this be the next large scale open world game to limp into existence? or the next big thing.

They of course have an alpha sign up page for those interested: HERE

This game looks to have a decent budget and dev team. I'm trying not to be too hyped but it does seem promising.

Alpha looked good, devs responding to issues and feedback. The next one will be interesting.

I wonder how much Microsoft's studios share data. It looks like a little Fallout 76 and a little Elder Scrolls Online went into the foundation for that.

How is Microsoft involved in this project? Microsoft is not mentioned as one of the backers on their timeline - https://themainframe.com/en/ - I mean if Riot Games is mentioned as one of the backers, then surely Xbox Game Studios or whatever would also be mentioned. And on their steam page - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1995520/Pax_Dei/ - its not published by Microsoft, but by Mainframe themselves together with New Tales, an independent publisher. Just curious since Microsoft is mentioned in the title.

Anyways looks pretty sweet as an Eve Online game in a fantasy world. I hope they can squeeze all the players onto the same server as in Eve Online.

It was first mentioned over 2 years ago where afaik, the idea was to develop a cloud-native (thats the microsoft funded bit) game that would scale to whatever device it was played on - from phone to consoles to beastly gaming rigs.

It was also a chance to iron out the kinks of delivering a game in this manner and develop a dev playbook as it were. Supposedly (if it all goes to plan) the next game will be some huge budget affair for Xbox by Hideo Kojima

To me it sounds less like direct Microsoft funding, and more that Mainframe might have points of contact at Xbox for support with the cloud stuff. Makes sense since it'd help them test their cloud stuff and even if it costs them some man hours to customise a solution for this game, they're probably banking on it being reusable or at least inform their own efforts. 'cause as you say, if they're mentioning Riot funding you'd think they'd mention MS funding too.

The alpha was fun however very very grindy in it's current state. Definitely meant for larger groups to play together if you want to get anywhere tech wise.
