Recently did a fresh OS install of my current rig and the wi-fi card I've got is playing up (Abit Airpace).

It's in the PCIe x1 slot and it seems that every 2nd time I boot the machine up no device is detected in that slot, even in hardware manager. If it's not detected, a reset will usually make it re-appear.

Am trying to hunt down some other drivers (it's based on an Atheros chipset) but was curious if anyone knows what a likely cause for such a problem is? It's obviously not completely faulty.

    Thanks a bunch.

Try giving all the contacts a clean, also bend the bracket a bit so the contacts slide deeper into the slot if possible.
Turn off pcie link power mangement in your power settings.

reseat & clean as suggested above.
try a different slot if possible

    on a note
pci &pcie wi-fi cards are the most commonly failing components i have come across.. so dont be surprised if thats the case.
