Is the K5 actually waterproof, or just water resistant like the K7?

    Nice buy though.

Resistant.... No slr can be waterproof without special housings.

    Kind of a design flaw:D

    Nikonos RS says hi...

...although, from what I hear, they tended not to stay that way.

And, yes, DNGs FTW! Another thing Pentax does right. Although by supporting an open-ish RAW standard, they can't encrypt their white balance settings and change software makers for the key, like Nikon...

Former Rabbit Photo store owner in Tamworth (of all places) who was selling one of those: "The 'RS' stands for 'Rat Shit.'"

My K-x got caught in the rain at the zoo a couple of weeks back, suffice to say I now understand why weather sealing is kind of a big deal. It's fine but it froze up on me a few times. :p

Yup, confirming that .DNG is playing nice with LR4.2.
Totally forgot about that since I've been shooting .pef for so long.

I've tested PEF and DNG on my K-5 and it made lick all difference in file size, while I recall there was a difference on my K-x...

Is there a difference on the newer K-5 IIs?

Wasn't with the K5 classic cannot see why the new ones would be different.

I wish I could offer my input, but all I've ever shot is DNGs on my K-5.

I *think* the difference is that DNGs are losslessly compressed, but PEFs aren't compressed at all. I think.

It's a nice move from Pentax, since most photo editing software took the stance of "Not Canon or Nikon? Yeah, we might get around to supporting your RAWs in, oh, a decade or so. Maybe. See how we feel then."

Apart from the first few months of owning my K10D, since then I've only ever shot DNGs on my Pentax dSLRs as well. I've even ended up converting all the original PEFs from the K10D to DNGs.

    AF (comparing against the k7)
Low light focussing - it locks on much much faster. As for accuracy, I'd confidently say that focus is spot-on 90% of the time (AF.S, non moving subject, without focus assist light). The 10% miss, the shots were all slightly front focused.

Live view contrast detect has been improved a lot.

    AF.C..

    Those whacky Japanese!!!

As of right now the best selling camera in Japan is the Pentax Q according to BCN. Outselling any/all of the current DSLR's is just crazy.

My Pentax Q should arrive today, hopefully.

Still wondering what the hell I should do with it. Keen to give it a whirl first, as I'd be down for a truly "pocketable" camera with decent IQ. Otherwise might gift it to family of flip it for a few bucks

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Pentax. They're genius but crazy.

I was tempted to get a Q from Ted's.. but couldn't really justify that purchase. My X10 and Nokia808 would kick its ass!

but for $200.. crap. Now I'm having regrets :tired:

I am very tempted - I miss not having a Pentax in the bag anymore! Do you have to actually be a "Teds Member" to buy one - anyone know???

I agree man...the Nokia has a kick ass camera and in a more practical shell.

I wonder if that price drop for the Q is a global one as that would explain the surge in Japanese sales as well.
