For some reason, I really want to jump onto the Pentax K-1 bandwagon, but the pricing/premium is a bit difficult to justify... I really need to have a good play with this before I make up my mind

    It's a D810 at two thirds the price. Really it's a bargain.

I would like to test a K-1 out. How? Where?

Digi Direct hosted the launch party so they are probably a good bet. But they may not have any left. Pretty sure the existing Aussie stock was picked up pretty fast and CRK are awaiting a new arrival of stock.

Just returned from Tokyo and there was some in all the Yodabashi/Bic Cameras shops.

testing it out.. to hand the controls are not as intuitive (for me) as previous Ks.
I am still shooting with a K20D and the K5/3s all feels more or less the same with just variations to the controls. Going straight to a K1 .. there is a obvious learning curve involved as with the 3rd dial.. options and formerly automatic setting changes need slight relearning.
Not saying it is a bad thing.. just different.

The performance of AF seems nice but anything since K20D for me is nice..
Took some test shots but unable to process them at the moment and stuffed up with the settings as well where I got confused with what was being selected (shooting in HDR by accident). Tried with my FA* 24mm and DA* 50-135mm.

Nothing in-depth.. just a play around, feels much bigger and heavier in hand... not likely to want a grip for general shooting. Balance is good and the hinge screen pretty sturdy as per all accounts... what may not be is the swing up screen independent of the main mechanism as it is a regular piano hinge (not sure what to call it).

Looking not to get it right away but in the next year or two.

I used video on my Kx once. Ive never used it on my K-30. If video is sacrificed in favour of lower costs or features in other areas, ill take it.

The K-70 looks like an exceptional 'entry level' camera. I cant see how anyone could go past it if theyre in the market for an entry level.

Nice!!!! My favourite two Pentax lenses. I'm just about to sell those exact lenses and a K3. Finally decided to sell up the remaining Pentax gear I was holding on to.

You're abandoning us? :( What are you on now?

Should've listed earlier so I could have bought it off you!

I love the 77! If I had known it was this nice, I would have gotten it first! But yes, the 31 is also special.

I picked up a D810 a little while ago when I moved my photography into more of a business. I've now got a D500 on the way so I will now have two Nikon bodies. Since getting the D810 I haven't really used the Pentax. Not because I didn't want to. Just had no need. Was holding onto it to have a back up but mostly for sentimental reasons. My first DSLR was a K30 (I still have around here somewhere) and then my K3. I sold all my lenses other than the 31mm, 77mm and 18-135mm. I need to recover some funds from the D500 purchase so I am going to have to let it go.

    You selling the K3? I can't make the decision to either sell all my Pentax gear and go Nikon. I don't do this professionally and own the following;

    - Pentax K-r
    - SMC Pentax-DA 50mm F1.8
    - SMC Pentax-DA 35mm F2.4
    - Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD

I just feeling like I'm getting the quality that I have seen from some Nikon/Canon setups. Though it has a lot to do with the lenses, but I see so many people rave about the 2 Pentax primes.
