    Hey

    This is a noob question...

but can pepperoni be eaten in its raw form...ie by raw i mean i bought it from the supermarket deli. Does it need to be cooked? or can it be eaten as it is? Same applies with Salami?

    Cheers

All the deli meats can be eaten raw. It was my only source of nutrition when I worked in one a few years ago.

(And when I say raw, I mean as is from the deli. Many of them are 'cooked', and are not meat straight from the animal obviously)

they've been cured and smoked so yeah. Ithink they just taste better when all the fats and oils have been rendered out from chucking it in a toasted sandwich/pizza

Fresh, sliced thinly with some good cheese and olives is great. I actually prefer it uncooked... hm... maybe... I really do like a good americana pizza (salami/pepperoni and cheese).

Speaking of Salami, has anyone had the A.C. Butchery stuff?

Wait, so you can eat bacon raw? I know pancetta is ok, but what about the rashers you have for breakfast?

Yeah ok not bacon, but that wasn't in the deli meat section of the deli I worked in. But you're right, I don't think bacon can be eaten as is.

It wouldnt kill you, as it's cured. It'd taste pretty ick though

EDIT - The only real difference between what we call bacon in australia and pancetta is the curing process (wet vs dry), the cut, and that the latter is dried for months. Most of our bacon in australia's not smoked, unlike in some other countries (not to say you cant buy smoked bacon in australia). That, and obviously that pancetta is sliced *very* thinly traditionally

I've always chomped on the odd slice of raw bacon despite being told not to a few times. Never really known why and never bothered to find out.

Raw salami I wasn't a huge fan of. I could eat it on a sandwich though. A bit too fatty or slimy for me.

Have to disagree with that... most of our bacon is smoked (or smoke flavoured), most italian cured meats are NOT smoked (pancetta + prosciutto + salami included).

If it was slimy, you got some bad produce there... it should be chewy, slightly sour and pretty dry.
