Headed out to the airport yesterday morning on a whim and ended up with a photo or ten, and I got rained upon as well:

And if anyone's interested, there's a whole lot more airplane photos in this flickr set.

    3 Landing or taking off?

If landing, can I get a hi-res? :) I was landing it for the first time.

Did you see a photographer on your port side on approach, or were you too busy watching the landing lights?

    YOU were landing it??
It was on short final to 16R, so landing. And a hi-res version is available for a limited time here. Edit: no longer available.

It was just off Qantas Drive, right under the runway 16R flight path, and the shots were taken using a Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6, and you know what, I reckon it would've be even better if I had something wider, or a fisheye.

Cool! Thanks for that.. might have to head out there myself sometime.. Im got a 14mm (full frame).. so thats slightly wider then your 10mm (cropped).. I would have never considered using a UWA for that.. good job!

plane shots do not really do it for me.. except for these, love the different views :thumbup:

i absolutely detest the boring, overdone side view.. ugh.

14mm on FF is a LOT wider than 10mm on a crop body, not just slightly ;)

I love these shots, they are really great. Top stuff!

I've never been a fan of airport photos, and i never thought i would ever be.
But there's something about these that do it for me.

What did you make the jump from? Domestic 737?

Always wanted to pursue the career, I am too old now unfortunately.

Might be worth getting the OP a 6-pack, talk about right place right time :)

Edit: Just realised Yesterday AM.... I was thinking the light was back to front for YSSY 16R ops during PM.
