How does this compare, to say, an original Playstation, which is $10?

    Just saw this, holy shit.

Only downside I can think of is that every PlayStation except 4 has been back compat.

    But hot damn

Doubly so when you take into consideration the original Playstation was a joint-venture with Nintendo! muahahaha

Don't want to upset you lads but you know Sony's locked down consoles since the PS2. Yes there are certain methods for the PS3/PS4 but it's extremely limited in functionality.

    1) HDMI out, works flawlessly on your HDTV versus 480i consoles that scale poorly and lag like crazy
    2) No disc rot
    3) 20 games which would cost you a bucket legally due to some of the titles being hard to find (only 5 games announced so far that would already cost you over $100 total)

    Final Fantasy 7 (Square/Eidos)
Jumping Flash (Exact/Ultra, owned by Sony)
Ridge Racer Type 4 (Bandai Namco)
    Tekken 3 (Bandai Namco)
Wild Arms (Media.Vision, owned by Sony)

The hardware isn't the problem, games are. Legal sales of old games in any format are a good thing. Digital downloads on new consoles are nice, but this is an excellent way to give people a physical copy of games on a plug-and-play device. In an industry notoriously poor for delivering old content to customers (compare to movies, where you can buy Blu-Ray releases of movies from the 1950s today with ease), all and any methods to sell old games in a new format are welcome.

Sort of. Lots of misinformation on the Internet about that. The real story is here (ignore the fact that it's Kotaku, the article's author, Chris Kohler, knows what he's talking about, and the last of the real games journos):

I'm far more upset that Microsoft and the XBox are a big part of the death of Sega.

I wasn't a big PS1 player so I'm personally not that excited (there are some games I played on the system, but it doesn't hold the kind of nostalgia the Nintendo consoles do) but I can understand why alot of people would be.

One thing I would be concerned about, is that 20 games is a really really small number compared to the insane number of games the system had, it's going to be pretty hard to cover all the bases of what people want.

To be honest, it kind of baffles me why these types of retro consoles (especially as we head into the PS1 era) don't have the ability to have some kind of store where you can purchase and download additional games. Storage is relatively cheap now and the games were still on CDs.

Ps1 and ps2 are the best consoles so many underates classics that just don’t exist in today’s world of pubg and fortnite crap. We were truly spoiled compared to today’s kids
