I’m currently running a Ring Video Doorbell 2, but we are building a house starting early next year and planning on running Ethernet cabling throughout.

now I’m wondering if there is a better option for a Video doorbell that possibly works on PoE instead of WiFi and Battery... also even better would be without a monthly storage fee and some big company storing all that video to misuse how they please.

I’d love for a doorbell with video that stores the footage on a local server/NVR in my house. The hardest part I’m thinking would be the remote alerts when we are away so i can see/answer if required.

I did wonder if it was possible to just use an PoE IP camera mounted above the door or somewhere like that and than just a push button for the doorbell which could trigger an alert (plus the motion from the camera).

    any ideas?

Ring Elite? It's PoE but obviously you need to pay for their cloud if you want recordings

    As a man who just went through this here was my findings;

Ring elite is the most straightforward option if you just want video doorbell.
However I don't let any of my camera's stream to cloud services (paranoid...)

This is the way I went, as all my camera's are POE and record back to a blueiris instance hosted in AWS along with the rest of my infrastructure.
Note: It's not cheap, at all. I purchased two direct, and my cost was close to 4K USD.

EDIT: Mine are also used for entry to clarify - their video doorbells start at a much more palatable price.

This was the only reliable option I could find when I was looking,

I came across these as well, but never used them as they lacked critical featureset.

I've not yet managed to get the ring elite to connect via ethernet (it gets POE power, no worries), their stupid app always fails to assosciate, and i notice on my cisco switch the ethernet port flapping. yet it connects fine on wireless....

Plenty of POE door intercom units, with remote apps to call you and let you answer/open door remotely. Any security company should be able to get you one. They'll be more expensive than a ring tho.

I have a Hikvision metal one, once I have it configured properly I will be able to see it on my phone.. don't need the door release yet but that could be an easy add on down the track

But that also integrates with my hik cams and iMVS. Not only can i record my cams as per normal I can view and record the door intercom

You can buy adapters that break out PoE into a separate DC barrel plug, from there that could be used to power the doorbell.

    Not particularly,

But as a security admin I don't like potentially breachable services and my IoT devices are on a segregated network with no internet access.

No cloud offering also allowed me to do facial/licence plate recognition to trigger automation's, so my reasons are twofold :weirdo:
