A while back I was looking for a not-unhealthy after-dinner snack that wouldn't mess up sleep patterns, and I remembered reading about popcorn, so I schlepped off to Target and got a cheapie air-popper. I may as well have been eating polystyrene packaging peanuts for all the culinary pleasure it gave me.

My questions, I guess, are these:
    1) Am I doing it wrong? Can you get good flavour from air-popped popcorn?
    2) If not, is there any other use for this machine? Please don't say roasting coffee. It's going in the bin otherwise, that's AU$16 I will never see again :(

Did you smother it in butter and salt?

do it in a saucepan with a lid and oil.

break your popcorn machine with coffee then throw it in the bin.

Maybe instead of seasoning with butter and salt (as delicious as they are), what about herbs or other seasoning.

Plain air popped popcorn is pretty gross once it cools down.

I've never tried it, but surely bacon could be used with popcorn?

I've never met a food yet that didn't taste worse with bacon added.

Dammit, now you've got me racking my brain trying to think of a recipe that would taste worse with bacon added.

I wonder if bacon fat could withstand the heat needed to pop the kernels.
Even broccoli tastes better with bacon ;)

    Chilli+Lime
    2 pieces Palm Sugar
    Chili Flakes (to taste)
1 Tbsp oil (olive, peanut, coconut, whatever you use at home)
    3 Tbsp Lime Juice
    ΒΌ tsp Sea Salt
Black Pepper to taste (A bit of cumin works well too)

    Garlic popcorn with Cayenne
    1 tsp sea salt
    2 cloves of garlic minced
    1/2 tsp Cayenne pepper
    2 Tbsp butter melted
You can just mix them together and pour over your popcorn if you like the taste of raw garlic.
I prefer to heat up the garlic with the butter just to knock that raw taste back a little.

    Choc popcorn
melt some dark chocolate and put your popcorn on a tray so it's a single layer. Then drizzle the chocolate over the popcorn and let it harden.
You can sprinkle it with some sea salt before the choc hardens if you are so inclined.

    Honey butter
    2 Tbsp Honey
    2 Tbsp butter
    Salt to taste
Melt the butter with the honey and drizzle over. Not exactly healthy but mmm good!

    Sriracha popcorn
Sriracha sauce. As much as you can handle :p
