So I recently moved house. No we back onto a bit of a nature strip with a little bit of scrub / gum trees.

My window is right at the back of the house directly facing this nature strip. At approx 5am every morning, a few dozen or more birds decide to get social while im in the middle of my remz sleep.

I prefer to sleep with the window open, however even with it shut the noise still penetrates.. its incredibly high pitched, erratic and very very annoying.

Now im literrally at a point where I'm going to torch / cut down any tree within a 50 meter vacinity.. but I was wondering if theres some wierd device I can buy and point at the tree, maybe something really high pitched / ultrasonic that will just scare the birds off?

I'm all for nature but fuck me... I need my sleep and 5am starts are no good for my lifestyle.

Failing that, I will also be considering a gun license + shotgun of sorts. :tired:

Feed them, they're fairly quiet when they're eating.

They're spread out over about 3x 20 meter tall gumtree's. Besides I'm not waking up at 5am to feed them... that would just encourage + help them breed.

However, If I poisened the food... yes... perhaps then ??

    seriously though ...... :upset:

It's also worth noting that as native australian species, they are protected by law. Killing or injuring them could land you in a huge amount of trouble.

Don't worry, I've already started making my Albatross suit so I look like a natural predator!

Don't piss the cockatoo's off. They'll fucking eat your house.

Neighbours threw tennis balls at loud cockies and they chewed half the guttering, now the house looks like it has waterfalls when it rains. (House is 1 year old too lol)

Don't they use eagles to ward of pigeons? Would it work for these species i wonder. Even if it was a life like eagle which you mounted on your window.

Ha! They sell those. Kite thingies, look like an eagle. Don't know whether they work.

2 options. Move, or get used to it. I used to live across from natural bush where the birds would give early morning singalongs. You get used to it.

Is this thread the definition of "first world problems" or what?

I had similar problems, if it's not the Lorikeets then it's the noisy Minors or the Cockies which sound like Pterodactyls. Even air rifles are not strong enough to knock them out. There suppose to be some sonic device you can get but I'm not sure on the distance. You could always try ear plugs.

I've heard that councils can relocate colonies of problem birds but well....they would have to be a real problem for lots of residents or the environment etc......and it's councils we are talking about so good luck with that.

I'd also suggest a good pair of ear plugs. Not some shitty $1 pharmacy pair, but find some really good ones, like they use in construction. When they wake you up in the morning, pop them in, instant silence, back to sleep. Or. Sleep with them in all night.

Shut-up Cheese, clearly you've never lived near birds.

I have and they are nasty.....the noise they generate at times is incredible. Nothing worse than losing sleep you desperately need - really can play havoc with your life.

I've done the barking dog next door journey and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, to coin a phrase.....or actually I probably would as it is *that* bad.

Peacocks have to be the worst and they make a noise all night long.

Things is if you keep letting it get to you, you'll start waking up in anticipation of the noise. I can easily and regularly wakeup 1 minute before the alarm clock goes off. Try to think positive, relaxing, thoughts about these birds, even getting out of bed to feed them could really help your mental state and then you'll be able to sleep through the noise, so long as they regularly do their thing at the same time you should be able to adapt.

I used to live with someone who had a cockatoo and galah inside the house and a large walk in avairy with various parrots. It took a while but I managed to ignore them. Still wasn't fun when they arrived that first few months.

+1 for learning to sleep with earplugs, I do, and it's awesome! took some time to get used to it, but I swear by them now.

as for threatening to kill trees, you've now stated on a public forum that you might, prime suspect now buddy! go the ear plugs, you won't be sorry.

I used to live on beaudesert road (busy main road for out of staters), and the traffic every day just wore me down, I moved after two years, easier to move lol

Hi, I also reccomend trying out earplugs, I found that even though my apartment is in a quiet area I sleep much better with earplugs in.
