Now that Xbox Series S/X prices are out, what are our bets for PS5?

    US
    XBox Series X - $499
    Xbox Series S - $299
    AU
    Xbox Series X - $749
    Xbox Series S - $499

I reckon now that MS have set a "reasonable" USD price of $499, Sony won't want to go lower as it implies their console is of lesser value (weaker, cheaper, etc) - I'm sure they will match price.
Worst case they can't and go more expensive, but that would be a highly risky move.

    My prediction:
    US
    PS5 Disc - $499
    PS5 Dgtl - $399
    AU
    PS5 Disc - $749
    PS5 Dgtl - $649

hasn't it been reported that Sony's manufacturing costs are high this time round?

I have a feeling the discless version will be 499 USD and they'll be confident that their exclusives will win out over microsoft.

The xbox series S would be tempting if I didn't already own an Xbox one X.

I think I'll hold off getting a PS5 until next year.

series s is about the same power as an xbox one x but with the new navi architecture.

aimed for ppl who wants next gen games but are happy at 1080/1440p.

Its a good option if you just want a console for game pass.

The only reporting I remember about PS5 production prices is from Feb: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...-with-playstation-5-price-due-to-costly-parts

They guessed $450 USD for manufacturing costs. Given we have also recently heard rumours (unsubstantiated) that MS is taking a loss of the Series X (and worse on the Series S), I would think Sony might actually be glad to price the PS5 at $499 USD and maybe break even!

BR Drive is worth about $20, but there will surely be $100 price difference because Sony (and MS) know that when they have you locked into digital, they have you locked into their store pricing, and they don't have to pay a cut to the retail chain.

Series S will be a fair bit more powerful than Xbox One X in my opinion, like at least 25%, and it will have crazy fast storage.

Do they have an idea on how PS5 Audio will work with Dolby Atmos? Currently my soundbar supports atmos (with the xbox one x).. hopefully won't go to waste if I move to playstation with next gen.

Sony isn't playing silly buggers waiting for microsoft to go first, to then launch at a higher price. I think your prediction might be pretty close, but hopefully Sony can pull their finger out soon and finally bloody announce launch date and price.

    Dang that’s a big difference

I guess Microsoft still has time to change their mind.

Hopefully it's correct and the PS5 with disc lands at $749 the same as the XBSX. I can certainly justify that and it helps my decision to hold off on buying a new graphics card till the dust settles.

Price would tempt me to get it at launch

Chatting to mates in Europe, all-digital over there is their choice because games are so cheap. They pay almost half what we do here for the same games.

Insane that in 2020 Australian's are still being stiffed on digital pricing "because shipping / local distributors". Utter BS.

Yeah especially when JB can be up to $40 (usually 30) cheaper on day 1 than the ps store.

My friend lives in Iceland, and commented that physical pricing there is on par with UK pricing, but PSN is always a fraction of the price.

He was utterly surprised at how many physical games I bought, and more surprised that I buy quite a few from the UK because they're cheaper (at least, they were for a while, these days JB and co are catching up).

Shows you how much we're getting stiffed on PSN.

The only real exception I see is the Nintendo e-Store, where everyone gets stiffed equally, and nobody gets cheap games.
