    Howdy guys,

The nephews got a PS4 for Christmas, and only just got around to setting up a PSN for them. Unfortunately, it told me that the console was banned or temporarily suspended.

It was a second hand console. What's the chances of it being unbanned?

    Cheers

Gota ring sony and ask why.

Most just take it back and exchange it, you might not have that option now.

Cause of timeframe? :( I feared that'd be the case. It's kinda dodgy though.

Like, why can't they do like a PSA on the system that says it's banned on the PSN?

Plenty of ways they could have handled it but this is it.

With a bit of luck it's something little like multiple credit cards rather than a stolen perma ban.

Yeah. Like they email the original account to tell them it's banned and why :(

Going to be an interesting call tomorrow.

Probably stolen PS4 using stolen credit card or something and whole thing got banned and then they traded it into EB Games.

Sadly once Sony puts a ban on a console its pretty much a permanent ban. Very rarely they will do a temporary ban these days. Your best bet is to try and exchange it at EB Games even though your over the time period.

You'd think there'd be a banned console serial number checker like the Apple locked iCloud one.... Surely this costs EB games a lot of money

So contacted Sony. They couldn't say why it was banned, but that there's nothing they can do. They recommended contacting place of purchase, which I did, and they'll take it, and then replace it without a problem (Sending the original back to Sony).

    But fuck.

    you got an awesome result.

just run a backup to an external hdd before you take it in then restore when you get the new one.

It's a decent result, but not awesome. It's still going to be a second hand console.

but you bought a used console!?

I really don't understand what else you thought would happen. You're getting a replacement.

Yeah which is why I said it’s a good outcome. Not fantastic. Keep in mind when this console was bought it was like $400 second hand. You can now get them used from eb for a good deal less. $400 now gets you a brand new one.
