    Could not find a link elsewhere (mods pls delete is this is a duplicate or inappropriate forum.)

    The QLD government has lodged an E-petition for an R18+ rating:

    "Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the classification of Computer Games and Images Act 1995 is currently out of step with the wishes of the electorate.

    Your petitioners, therefore, request the House that it be amended to permit computer games to receive the R18+ classification when they have been refused classification under the Commonwealth Act."

    I signed, but;

    This won't have any effect. Since all members but SAs want the classification, and since it has to be a unanimous decision (which is fucking retarded imo, should be majority vote), until such time as Michael Atkinson either gets voted out or chokes on a pretzel, nothing's going to happen.

    Democracy has nothing to do with it. Until Atkinson is removed from his position as Attorney General he will continue to veto every attempt to change the classifications system. He does it because he knows he can get away with it, and he doesnt care what Australians think (except those in his constituency of Concord).

    The only problem is, if someone kills him, he'll become a martyr.

    We need to wait for Atkinson to kill himself somehow.

    He'll do that to himself at his next election in 2010, if Australian gamers all over the country manage to band together and apply pressure on his smear campaign on gamers everywhere.

    What i dislike about Atkinson is his irresponsible role as an Attorney General, using his position of power to push forward personal agendas that are not based on anything more that personal prejudices towards violent video games. Whilst i agree that extreme content in video games shouldnt be permitted, it does not give him the justification he presumes he has to restrict the rights of the majority of Australian gamers and the responsibilities of parents to prevent violent content ending up in children's hands.
