Today at RAAF Museum, Point Cook the new display team for 'Season 2' of 2016 performed an awesome set. Several new faces in the group, FLTLT Des Hales, FLTLT Allister Berryman & FLTLT Ash Kissock. The Roulettes ran a competition asking the public to submit photos for next seasons poster. I won and so today they presented me with a signed and framed copy of my winning photo/poster and felt very honoured. OMG I wished I'd known they were there. Some awesome photo's again. Think you're going to be their official photographer the way things are going.
Congratulations, Vladdo! I think the one they chose was the least exciting of all your other ones you posted
I have to say, I look forward to seeing threads started by you in this forum Vladdo, always top stuff
Back in June, they ran a competition via their facebook page asking people to submit photos to use as a poster image for their 2016 season 2. I posted up about 6 photos and yeah, they chose the least exciting image. That said, to them it's more about the technical side of a photo rather than what's 'exciting'. I mean, they have an aversion to the wedge formation since there's millions of photos of that around.. and they like images where they are in the correct position. The images I posted up from yesterday, some are pretty bad in terms of precision formation flying as they are out of position, but that's not my fault.. They are really critical of themselves. Infact, they appreciate people posting photos up to their facebook page because they have no idea how they went during a routine, and the only obvious way for feedback is via photos. But yes, to get a good photo you really need a lot of things to go right.. Good light.. blue skies.. and for them to be on their game.. And I only really see them maybe 2-3 times a year.
epic work, and congrats on the comp! I guess its funny, their critical of their work because they are striving for that perfect formation, and same thing with you trying to nail the perfect photo
Thanks for the compliments.. always appreciated Thanks.. Everyone keeps telling me that I am, so if the shoe fits.. haha If you have facebook, like the roulettes page and you'll get updates on when they'll be having a display. Unfortunately I don't think they'll be back at Point Cook this year. https://www.facebook.com/RAAF.Roulettes/ Yeah, it's not the image I would have chosen either, but it's not my decision to make. It feels a bit surreal when you see the boys handing out hundreds of posters and there is your image. Yeah, a lot of variables have to all line up to get a good shot. I think I've taken a good shot and they then tell me that it's terrible because R4 is out of position.. can't friggin win.. hehe..
Received a gift pack from the Roulettes today with a lot of cool stuff.. They meant to give it to me on the day of the presentation but I disappeared early.. Love the hat, and was a nice touch with all the signatures in Vic formation
Next time you go to photo them, I would dearly love to tag along if possible. Your shots are amazing and I would love to pick up some tips from a master
Hahaha.. you're too kind.. The next shoot (for me) of the Roulettes will be at the Kyneton Airshow on the 23rd October.. More than happy to meet at you at the gate or something.. I only really see the roulettes probably 2-3 times a year.. Australia Day display at Geelong Waterfront (January), 1st flight of the 1st season at Point Cook RAAF Museum (April) and 1st flight of the 2nd season at PCK Museum (August).. There's a few other places they visit, ie, Grand Prix F1 (March) and Grand Prix Bikes (October?) but those are a bit difficult to get to. But yeah, kyneton airshow is looking quite decent with a good 6 hrs of displays.. can't wait.. https://www.facebook.com/kynetonairshow
Just had a look and found this. The next display at Point Cook is on Monday 06 Nov 2016 13:00 Roulette Display RAAF Museum Point Cook - Interactive Flying Display. I doubt it would be a full display being a Monday but might be an opportunity for Akh-Horus so thought I'd post it.
Oh cool ma.. Didn't realise they'd be back this year.. And the 6 th is a Sunday.. They always do it on a Sunday, as the turnout would be pretty small on a Monday..
