I'm quite new to Raspberry Pi development. I've been looking into hooking up an RFID reader to my RPi but not 100% sure where to start.

From what I've read I'd need a high frequency or ultra high frequency RFID reader in order to read at distances of about 1-2 meters. I need a reading range of 0- 150cm or there abouts.

Has anyone got any experience hooking up an RFID reader to a RaspPi? If so, what did you use and what would you recommend?

Any ideas or help are appreciated.

I'd start by cutting my teeth on this :

    https://www.adafruit.com/products/364

It's an NFC/RFID breakout board kit for Arduino and RaspPi. Adafruit have a small tutorial and codebase on how to hook it up for the RaspPi.

If you don't already have one, I'd also look at getting one of their cobblers and a prototyping board so you can avoid doing a lot of the soldering.

    Thanks for that!
So looks like 13.46Mhz is perfect for my applications.

Had a look at the tutorial, perfect!
