I have a handheld class III laser on my desk at the moment (actually my test gear says it's a class IV with fresh batteries) and it doesn't seem to cause any more issues than my drones do. the problem is people, not the devices.

What did hobbyists do? Laser engraving?

whatever the fuck they felt like as long as it didn't impact anyone else, which should be the standard for many things.

I wasn't being a smartass, I was genuinely curious as to what laser hobbyists do with lasers. A quick google revealed a lot of links to laser engraving. Thought there had to be much more to it than that.

Nah, those engravers are seriously dangerous.
Laser light shows are the thing, especially if you have 4 legs and fur.

Took my drone out with me today for a trip along Great Ocean Road. I wanted to bring it out for the 12 Apostles for some cinematic shots but once again I got scared because of the Parks Vic signs and no drone signage around the area. This sucks a lot, I have an expensive drone that I can't even use it in majority of the places I want to take it.

I did take it out at Johanna Beach, which is also a Parks Vic location but this area was very quiet and away from tourists. I was sceptical but I want to justify my purchase and footage looks surreal.

I know it's not allowed, but OpenSky and CASA approved sites once again allows the area around 12 apostles but parks Vic stop this. There are helicopters so of course fly with caution and lower when a helicopter or other flying aircraft is nearby.

Question, would you guys have flown around the 12 apostles? Being as responsible, safe and fast as possible? I'm really now considering selling my drone because I feel it's not worth the risks of capturing cinematic shots in these nice viewing locations .

I wouldn't sell. As I've said before I think these days are probably the best days to use drones. It seems heavily regulated in terms of where you can't fly but there really are plenty of areas to fly. It will probably only get worse from here, especially as we get more cowboys flying and possibly more near misses with aircraft as use becomes more widespread. I really hope we don't get to the point where buying a drone is largely pointless as these very few places to fly because they are heaps of fun and really don't do any harm if you use them as prescribed in safe and responsible ways.

I used mine to exercise the cats. Though the Bengal (RIP) didn't care, he didn't give a fuck, he just did what he want. Aspen, on the other hand, still loves laser pointers...

More on topic... Seriously considering a DJI Mini 3 Pro. Is there any reason buying in one country is better/worse than another? I'll be in multiple SE Asian countries, the US and Aus over the next few months, pricing is not too far apart, so if there are firmware benefits to buying in one place vs another, I'd be curious to know.

I could be wrong but I don't think there are different regional firmwares.

Actually, I did a bit of reading on this, and it turns out it pretty much grabs the firmware from wherever you are.

DJI seems to have a Boxing day sale still going (until tomorrow) so I may pick up a 3 Pro with the flymore+ kit. Got a buddy flying in next week, so he can claim the GST back for me :D, so it's about a $300 saving overall, just a shame they give you a backpack instead of the small hard case. Anyways... I do think I have a solution for that.

100% need the flymore kit, otherwise I think it's a waste of time. 3 pro with rc and flymore is an awesome bit of kit  I've just taken a bunch of footage of the riverland flooding that I need to process.

Part ofd the reason I want one is that both the Mrs and I are going to Salt Lake City in a few weeks (thanks to her company, and one of my clients) and we're springing for our eldest daughter (11yo) to come along. I'm buying season passes to one of the resorts there (we've got about 3 weeks) and I want to do some of the auto follow stuff with her. She's new to skiing, and I'm a long time canyon jumper, so I want her to see how she improves over the time we're there. I also know she can be a bit of a delicate petal, so seeing her improvements just from day to day may be enough to get her out when she feels discouraged.

Anyway, placing my order today, hopefully it gets to my friend in time for him to bring it with him next Friday.

I know the Flymore Kit+ batteries put it a tad over the 249g limit, but kinda hoping no one notices...

Thanks for that tip - I'll do a search and figure out what the deal is.

Edit - seems droning at the ski resorts is a no no, so there goes that idea. Back to hand held phone cam.

I ended up buying the DJI Mini 3 Pro, with RC and Fly More Plus kit for ~$1480. The Fly More Pack is on back order but seeing as I'm not back in Aus until early March, I'm not too stressed. Decided I prerred this over one of the other packages, as this gets me exactly what I want, with a good discount, and I can spend the change left over on some good SD cards and a filter pack, and probably have a good chunk of change.

For anyone looking to buy a DJI drone from the D1 store, the Boxing Day promo code is still working - enter HOLIYAY at check out to get the discount. Not sure how long before they disable it, it's no longer advertised but it did work yesterday..

    [EDIT]

Seems the carry bag that comes with the Flymore Plus kit is not currently available. The D1 store emailed me to ask if I would like the Flymore kit with the hard case instead. I figured it meant that I get a hard case with the regular Flymore batteries, so asked if I could have it with the Plus batteries and just pay the extra for the case.

"You don't need to pay anything, we will give you the hard case with the Flymore Plus battery kit"

Gotta love that sort of service.

Yeah I had to wait quite a while for my flymore kit to arrive, that was around release time though.

Definitely make sure you get good quality decent sd cards as if you want to get 4k @60hz you're going to need it otherwise the footage will possibly be jerky which is what I have right now. So I'm just dialing back the quality. Quality is still excellent but you just want the best of the best if you know what I mean. Those better cards will handle the transfer requirements much better. Will cost more but worth it.

    Have fun OS!

is the 3 pro worth it over the older models? As in, Double the price of an SE for e.g

Follow me on the 3 pro is probably the only feature I care a lot about , but i'm not sure it's worth double :( . Any other game changer features between the two I've missed ?
