i read something about changing the renderer as well - pretty disappointed for all the PC players having to endure these issues at launch. I would have expected better from R*. But then i don't know what percentage of the community are having the issues.

    Runs like hot garbage on a 2600 and RTX2070, can't maintain 60fps.

If you're using nvidia, change from the Vulkan API to DX12 otherwise you'll get see Texture flickering and other random shit. It's like they let the team that did the GTA IV port do RDR2

Insert my usual arguments here about extensively complex computer science problems across enormous combinations and permutations of hardware and software.

This isn't 2MB of code running on a single model of Super Nintendo. Shit's complex, yo.

    Picked up on /r/PCRedDead

If you lower Reflections to Medium/Low and Water Physics to Medium you get a decent FPS boost.

dynamic reflections and shadows are often the best places to start when trying to get more fps

Unless you're a vista panning site see-er you can usually go with little to no dynamic reflections anyway, staring at puddles is boring.

disabling my AV is all I needed running latest drivers and bios a couple of revisions behind, the minute I switch the AV back on it refuses to startup like clockwork.

Game is quite demanding, with the details cranked up fps is sitting around the mid 70s in valentine @1440p with occasional dips down to high 60's.

Yeah but gta 5 was ported much nicer. So it's being compared to that.

    GTA V
    * Is five years older
    * Is 40% smaller in size
    * Is substantially smaller in story/character scope, scale
    * Took twice as long to port to PC

We (as a customer base, and a community) are extremely quick to criticise work that is so enormous in scope and complexity, yet we seem to have real problems with applying an ounce of empathy and understanding to the people who take on enormous burden (often forgoing time with family and friends, sleep, and even sanity) to bring us this art.

Be patient and understanding. I know the game is amazing. I know you're all excited. Be just a little more patient and understanding. Behind all of this are real people working real hard to try and make it better for you.

People working hard for us yes but probly with horrible pressures from above as you know.

5 years older but still ground breaking at the time. 40% smaller but the world is generally more detailed, Rdr2 has more empty space. And it's 12 months vs 18 months.

6 more months in the oven would have done wonders.

I am always in 2 minds with these games, the driving/running/riding etc. sucks on kb, the shooting sucks on controller.
Not switching controls or buying a steam controller lol think I'll just live with lock-on aim because I have zero interest in online, and because I already lived through GTA3/Vice City/SA and RDR1 with a controller

Don't confuse the story and the technology telling the story. Game engines, hardware and drivers are getting more and more complex by the day. Exponentially so.

It's very obvious why so many companies license engines instead of writing their own compared to a decade or two ago.

Rockstar write their own, which has pros and cons. One of those cons is not having the enormous, established install base before rolling out a game of this complexity.

This is why you never pre-order. You either get a buggy mess or Star Citizen.

It wasnt a brand new release. It had a 3gb day 1 patch I guess.

Any nvidia people having no issues with vulkan? Yet to play just done benchies. Default settings at 1440p vulkan averaged 90fps and dx12 80fps.

Cause a game store is equally complex as the rest of the game
