Try to guess the retro game from the clues and hints provided.
Just like the geoguessing game in the pub, but with a retro twist !

    Rules/Guidelines
    • The first person to guess the game that matches the posted clue gets to post the next game. Sound bites or screenshots you've taken yourself are
    • No cheating. Please don't use google search. Its not a contest to swing the biggest retro memory/brain. It's just for a bit of fun.
    • Don't make it Contra final boss difficult. If there are no guesses then post progressively more helpful clues.
    • If no-one can guess the game then the player gets to choose a new game and goes again.

I'll start with a simple quote, just to get the ball rolling. Should be quite easy ? :)

Defender of the Faith, where "you save the green dots with your fantastic flying red square!"
Monkey's Paradise, where "you swing from green dot to green dot with your red square monkey!"
Penetrator, where "you smash the green dots deep inside the mysterious red square!"

    So, what's your guess ?

And the game list so far ... is now way too long to maintain.
Use the search Luke, use the search :)

I was thinking GTA too as it rang a bell, but thought to myself last night... "nah, probably not".

After you mentioned it today though, it clicked with me.

It's the arcade machine in GTA with 3 mini games, but I remembered the radio ad in that GTA too. :)

    WINNER !!!

sorry Slippery Puddin and JSmithDTV you were both on the right track, but the game was Vice City

    Flash FM

dad, no one wants to hear your stupid Vietnam stories
tired of mom, do you want to read a book or go outside
    Noooooo!

    hahha, still cracks me up

indulge me for a short blurb as to why i picked this quote - I was looking for something to listen to and stumbled over the Flash FM station ripped on YouTube.
As it played I was transported back to the early 2000's sitting at my mates place playing Vice City and just laughing so hard at the commercials being played on the radio stations.
We'd miss/lose some missions because you didnt want to get out of the car while a song or ad was playing :D
    Great times.

over to you Trizae, the chicken dinner is all yours. looking forward to your pick, this will be fun :)

Hrm.... that's the voice actor of "Brain" (from "Pinky and The Brain"). But the sound bite feels like it's out of something like a "Ratchet and Clank" game?

Is that voice Vincent Price ? That would have it as a 80s to very early 90s era ???

Audio quality seems pretty good feels like might be mid to late 90s or early 2000s... the subject matter rules out it being a kids game and the beeping is giving me sciency vibes. I'm gonna go for a wild swing and say fallout 2 knowing it's probably completely wrong

For some reason it's bringing to mind something I might have had on a magazine demo CD - that would put it in the 90s somewhere I guess?

    confirmed hints so far
    so not a kids game
its not 90's/00's (edit - reread comments, so it is a 90/00 game)

    possible hints but vague
    sciency vibes (?)

ummm, you like almost every game ever made, so i cant guess from anything you've talked about before ....
can we buy a hint ? what genre of game is it ?

Hmm... I'm thinking a Lucas Arts game as they always had these kinds of "movie" like scenes. So thinking a game like The Secret/Curse of Monkey Island, but that puts it in the 90's. Unless it's Escape from Monkey Island in 2000?

Sounds like it could be characters with bit-parts from Sam & Max?

Ok I will say something with hints, EVERY single person in this thread has mentioned something in relation to what it is.

In saying that even if you haven't played the game specifically, for those who know me I work currently with this company.

Every single person that does voices in the clip is extremely iconic across the planet through different dispositions.

The company who made that game is one of the biggest on the planet whether you speak english or not (that I work for since being on ocau)

You can buy their game on every modern current console (xbox series x/ps5)

The second voice actor is STUPID iconic even if you don't like him or have played the game you will know who it is and to go off what fnp said if you had to google the game of the genre it will come up as one of the iconic of that genre.

I thought it maybe obtuse because the way I cut it but literally everyone is like red hot and they just don't know it yet similar to my vice city above.
    :)

    damn you :D
90's, lucas arts, iconic voice acting...
well, i was otherwise occupied chasing tail and beer. usually in the opposite order and never played much in that mid 90's era so i'm out
who started this dumb game anyway, pffft :(
