    Click here if you want an explanation of what this is, and why we're doing it.

    Nominations are now closed. Voting begins today, closes Feb 14. Feb 15, we play the winner.

    Nominated games (click for information on each):

    * Bubble Bobble (1986)
    * Chrono Trigger (1995)
    * Head Over Heels (1987)
    * Jagged Alliance 2 (1999)
    * Karateka (1984)
    * MechWarrior (1989)
    * Qix (1981)
    * Stunts / 4D Sports Driving (1990)
    * Syndicate (1993)

    Nominate the game we'll play and discuss during late February 2017 in this thread. On Tuesday 7 February nominations will close, I'll add a poll, and we'll vote on the game there. Votes close Feb 14, and we start playing Feb 15.

    For now, nominate away. Rules are similar to other retro threads - the original game must be 10 years old or older (released February 2007 or earlier). Please keep nominations to one per person, so the voting list stays sane.

    See the FAQ thread linked to above for sites offering inspiration and ideas of which titles to pick. When nominating, please share a small amount of information about the game and maybe a screenshot or video. Handy links include MobyGames, HG101 or Wikipedia links.

    Auto-nominating "Syndicate" (1993) and "Chrono Trigger" (1995), due to their close second and third place in the voting last time.

    Nice one Elvis. I have been playing Qix on Amiga. I nominate it :)

    I always liked 'spline' screensavers. Boxing one in is simple and fun. I still get a kick out of boxing it into a tiny area :)

    Brilliant game. Lots of clones that came after it, but to my knowledge this is the one that kicked it off. Crazy addictive little title.

    For anyone wondering, it's pronounced "kicks".

    Originally released for arcade, but had dozens of home ports (Wikipedia even says it got some official mobile phone releases too). Great nomination! :thumbup:

    Cheers Elvis, I had always said it Kwicks. Was stoked to see the first winner, was worth playing just to hear my C64 talk ;)

    What are the rules on retro games that still have an active mod community?

    I'd like to nominate head over heels.
    no not the 1985 tears for fears song or the 2001 movie of the same name.
    but the 1987 game that I remember loving before my c64 died and my parents threw away when I was at school one day.

    I'm only concerned with the release date of the original version. Modern re-releases or mods don't disqualify a game.

    I'd like to nominate MechWarrior 1 and / or MechWarrior 2.

    Fond memories of MW1 on the 386.

    Got MW2 with Duke3D in a pack from Harvey Norman in 1995. MW2 music was so atmospheric which also helped to make the game so brilliant.

    I meant by default instead of 2 rounds of noms/votes.

    Yeah, I know, but I dunno about voting once and then forcing our hand for months on end. I kinda like the idea of regular voting. Maybe others don't?

    Maybe we'll do a month of "runner ups" later in the year or something? I 'unno.

    At any rate, lots of good games left to play yet. :)

    I must be confused I thought this was for a second game for Feb?

    So at the end of votes we have a winner or tie and we play the winners or the winner and runner up?

    At the end of the vote, we play the winner, and we restart nominations again.

    If there's a tie.... I 'unno. Play both?

    If there's a 3/4/5 way tie... :upset:

    We're nominating/voting/playing on a fortnightly basis now. 12 games a year isn't much, and a month is a long time to wait for people who are bored of a game.

    Discussion threads stay open forever, so folks are more than welcome to keep playing and talking about any given game. But anyone who doesn't like the current voted in game only has to wait a fortnight until something new comes along.

    Very well. I nominate Jagged Alliance 2, specifically the 1.13 community patch.

    I'm going to stick with my Chrono Trigger nomination.

    Why play Chrono Trigger? Because there's heaps of JRPG fans out there that go crazy about these things and well, Chrono Trigger in my opinion is the best one.

    It's got amazing story, visuals, music and gameplay. It's self contained in that there aren't a dozen sequels with a ravenous fanbase arguing about which one is the best in the series.

    If you aren't much into JRPGs but want to see what the fuss is about, this game is all you need.
