    Click here if you want an explanation of what this is, and why we're doing it.

    Nominations are closed. Voting has begun. Vote for as many titles as you like. We play the winner march 17.

    Games to vote for:

    * "Batman" aka "Batman: The Movie" (Ocean, 1989)
    * "Mega Lo Mania" (1991)
    * "Midwinter" (1989)
    * "Snatcher" (1988) (NSFW warning - gore/nudity)
    * "Sword of the Samurai" (1989)
    * "UFO: Enemy Unknown" aka " X-COM: UFO Defense" (1994)

    Nominate the game we'll play and discuss during late March 2017 in this thread. On Thursday 9th March nominations will close, I'll add a poll, and we'll vote on the game there. Votes close March 16, and we start playing March 17.

    For now, nominate away. Rules are similar to other retro threads - the original game must be 10 years old or older (released March 2007 or earlier). Please keep nominations to one per person, so the voting list stays sane.

    See the FAQ thread linked to above for sites offering inspiration and ideas of which titles to pick. When nominating, please share a small amount of information about the game and maybe a screenshot or video. Handy links include MobyGames, HG101 or Wikipedia links.

    Nominating "Snatcher". A PC style adventure game created by "Metal Gear" creator Hideo Kojima.

    Retronauts podcast with one of the English localisation staff:
    https://archive.org/details/Retronauts1-100/Retronauts+55+-+Genesis+Part+4+-+Snatcher.mp3

    Originally released for PC-88 and MSX2 in 1988, these were incomplete until the third act was finally added to the PC-Engine release in 1992, and the officially English-localised version for Sega-CD in 1994 (quite unusual for games like this of the era), which even had lightgun support for one section. Playstation and Saturn versions came later, but in Japanese only.

    It's a pretty blatant rip-off of Blade Runner and other 80s sci-fi movies, and shows clear links to Japanese anime like Bubblegum Crisis. The game features characters that show up in many future Kojima works, including a robot assistant named "Metal Gear".

    Kojima went on after this to make Policenauts (another adventure style game) which would feature the character Meryl Silverburgh who would reappear in Metal Gear Solid and on.

    I'm no Kojima fanboy by any stretch, but I'm keen to play this game as a weird bit of video gaming history. The English translation in particular is fascinating, being quite ahead of its time as a concept. It only sold "a couple thousand units", so was a commercial failure, but highly sought after these days due to the high quality of the production.

    I think I'd like to nominate Sensible Software's "Mega Lo Mania" from 1991.

    Sid Meier's Sword of the Samurai DOS 1989

    I want to nominate Sid Meier's Sword of the Samurai. A fantastic game I spent more time with I should have. It's very minimal but at the same time addicting.

    A great candidate for a month of play because it's not too short and not too long, also cheap on GOG. You can adjust difficulty if you feel you are in trouble.

    This game combines action, twitch dojo fighting and light strategy elements with adventure gaming with some randomness thrown in.

    Nominating Midwinter, a game I think was possibly the first open world game I ever played.
