Hi, just wondering what people know about this version of the Wii? It is apparently a japanese version and I was wondering if it can play AU games and display english etc.

RVL-001 refers to the part number of the wii component range, and does not mean it's a japanese region-encoded (NTSC). There are people in Europe who have RVL-001 PAL consoles.

Here's a list of part numbers:

    RVL-001: Wii system
    RVL-002: AC Adapter
    RVL-003: Wii Remote
    RVL-004: Nunchuk
    RVL-005: Classic Controller
    RVL-006: Disc
    RVL-007: Disc Case
    RVL-008: ???
    RVL-009: Standard A/V Cable
    RVL-010: S-Video Cable
    RVL-011: Component Cable
    RVL-012: D-Cable
    RVL-013: SD Card
    RVL-014: Sensor Bar
    RVL-015: LAN Adapter
    RVL-016: Sensor Bar Stand
RVL-017: Base (the silver piece for holding the Wii vertically)
    RVL-018: Wiimote Wrist Strap
RVL-019: Clear Circular Stand (goes on the bottom of the silver base)

Region-locked (NTSC) Wii consoles cannot play Aus games (which are of the PAL standard). In order to do this, certain things that cannot be talked about on ocau, must be done to the console.

I'm not sure whether if Jap NTSC consoles can display english, however I'm quite certain that USA NTSC consoles display english.

    Hope that helps mate.

I'm actually referring to this console in particular. Would it play AU games and display english? DX couldn't really give me a straight answer.

nope, that console from DX cannot play AU games as its a region encoded for Jap games only - only 'fixable' via something deemed taboo on ocau

as for the language - if it can be changed to english or not - i think it's in your best interests to message one of those 3 people who have posted a 'mini-review' on the DX console.

When you factor in the currency exchange it really isn't such a good deal anyway. You'd probably only save about $20-$40.. buy locally and save yourself a bit of hassle.

yeah just buy locally + you can get some pretty good bundles or freebies with AU consoles now anyway

Warranty is another issue - Nintendo Aust will only cover AU consoles; so if you buy the JP console, and have a problem, you got to send it back to Japan
