The temptation was too great to resist. Grabbed one.

    EDIT: It's crazy, I paid $535 for my 3700X 4 months ago.

Nah I have a 3700X which was a placeholder for a 3950X but the 3900X at this price sucked me in.

I missed the deal for the 3900x :( Was researching a motherboard to get at the same time, and then it was gone.

I decided upon Asus Prime X570-Pro, or the Gigabyte X570 Auros Pro, depending upon the price on the day (was going to be the asus, because it was $80 cheaper at that store).

Damn. I'm not really in the market for a CPU yet (although I do have a FS/Trade thread wanting to trade my 2700X + Dark Rock Pro 4 for a 3600X + stock cooler, just until another gen of Ryzen drops) but for a 3900X at that price, I'd probably have jumped on it anyway.

Let us know what the experience was like when you get it.

This shop has some very keen pricing.

This is a really tough call now.

I know that I need (yes, need for reals or I will die) to upgrade by the end of March. That leaves me about 2 weeks until Cyberpunk 2077 launches to have everything squared away. I had set myself on getting the 3800X for the alleged better binning over the 3700X and because I can.

Now, for only about AUD30 more than the 3800X I could get the 3900X but it is a limited time offer, much like the hot chicks waiting for me. I don't do anything "core intensive" on my desktop anymore so the 8 cores in the 3800X was overkill. There are rumours circulating around that the 3800X has all eight cores on one good chiplet while the 3900X has two chiplets with six "good" cores in one and six "not as good" cores in the other. Got to love some good Internet rumours with nothing to substantiate them to base a purchasing decision on.

More grounded in reality, that is a good price and it would get the number two chip which would help with re sale when the desktop 4000 series arrives. Must resist.

At that price it's worth it over the 3800x even if the cores go unused for now. You're right on resale, and if you kept it the extra cores will keep you steady for longer as things start using more cores since now the cpu makers arent lazy.
