With the off-center die then it sounds like a good idea to de-lid...My EK block runs warmish due to that so it'd be good to get some solid WC effect but it's likely a block design issue instead...
is that on a 3900x? honestly, i think everyone should delid and lap their 3900/3950s only because of how the chiplets are layed out. my 3950 was raised on the edges. i really wish CPU manufacturers pay more attention to detail, soldering the IHS, and minimizing the height of the IHS as much as possible.
what, 2 or 3 times the price for a small increase in performance ? they can keep doing what theyre doing for my money
or just refine the process, i mean, it cant be THAT hard to manufacture an IHS with better thermals right?
amd arnt going to do it for free right ? so, the purchaser would pay for it. everything is a trade off. im certain the amd engineers have worked those numbers hard. id love it, dont get me wrong, but the cost to benefit ratio turns to shit somewhere (just) past where we're at now
Yeah 3900x. Custom keeps it below 75 no matter what but id like it lower as fan speed makes no material difference for me (5*c max really
id say give it a shot if you got the tools shouldnt take you longer than an hour. my temps dont get above 70c on air in cinebench gaming stays around 60
Pretty sure I read somewhere/someone also made a custom mount for ryzen that allows you to fit/twist your cooler HS at an angle to better match the off-center dies that was meant to shed between 5 to 10 (or more) degrees off. edit: think this may have been it. http://der8auer.com/ryzen-3000-oc-bracket/ or
I finally pulled my finger out, stopped playing games on my new rig, switched to my mac, airdropped the pic of my rig from the iphone to the macbook, and stuck it on imgur. I present to you, my first PC build in over 6 years. Has it been worth it? Not really $$ wise due to covid-19 price hikes, but the enjoyment I will get out of this machine will be Now I just need to pick a colour sheme for the RGB and double the ram to 32 (with RGB to balance out the MSI Boards "infinity mirror") to make it an "ideal" machine for MS FS2020. Of course I peeled off the TG front panel's plastic films AFTER i put the case together, and now there is an annoying little tuft of the stuff trapped between the front glass and right side of the machine. GRRR!
Good to see sanity has prevailed with 400 series boards supporting Zen 3. But fmd AMD your marketing team really need to be axed. Terrible naming conventions that cause utter confusion, now this. Why are AMD so intent on shooting themselves in the foot?
You have to prove to AMD/MB Vendor you have purchased the new 4000 series CPU before you get the bios file - you won't be able to download it from the vendors public site. And anyone downloading a random bios from a forum deserves to have their bios borked
anyone buy one recently that has a bios that supports the 3300x/3600 ? ASUS ROG Strix B450-F or ASUS TUF B450 Plus Thinking on buying but unsure wether to pay 10$ to make sure it has the bios to support the cpu's
Both show 3000 support in their bios patch notes https://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/TUF-B450-PLUS-GAMING/HelpDesk_BIOS/ https://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B450-F-GAMING/HelpDesk_BIOS/ edit: misunderstood the question - I wouldn't assume they had an update to date bios unless the box has a sticker stating as such
