Looking at upgrading my 1700... Would a 3600 be considered an upgrade? Particularly for gaming? I really don’t do too much that utilises 8 cores, so surely a new 6 core processor would be a solid upgrade?

Yes. Absolutely. Single core performance, which is what you want, is massively improved over the 2700, let alone the 1700. Plus an equally massive improvement in multi threaded performance.
I think the 3700X will be the new all-rounder mainstream king, and the 3600 will be the new mainstream gamer king.

Sweet as. Just gotta find the cheapest price now. Local MSY down the road might have it, but as usual, website hasn’t been updated...

Looks like I'm gonna have to do some BIOS updates for the incoming flood of now useless 2xxx series that will be given/thrown away :leet:

A 3700X would be nice, but overkill none the less.

Well it looks like I’m keeping my 8700K. The gaming benchmarks are disappointing (as usual).

Well it looks like 3700x have sold out pretty much everywhere.. profiteering now happening. You can now pay 600 or 700 for a 3700x..

None of the reviews seem to be able to adjust the ppt max power. So overclocks are low.

Key feature of the 3700x is the massive stock cooler, so I would like to see how that works out.

im not going to use it for gaming ive got my 8700k @ 5.2ghz for that

on a side note OC'/ing does not look promising either

4.3ghz max ish and Hardware unboxed (amd disciple ) Steve managed to kill his 3900x on auto volts -- not looking good

I got in on the CA Ebay deal last night - was tempted to go for a 3900x but the extra cost as well as all the cooling rejigging I needed to do (I'm running a SFF Dancase) I don't think it'll be worth it.
I have to say I'm not completely blown away with the results, but hype trains do that to you

On the plus side though, the Crosshair VIII hero is not too stupidly priced.
