Dont ignore the motherboards either, great prices too!
unavailability of most PC parts is going away it seems (gpus being the obvious exception) ?
hopefully pricing continues to trend down
Going to -finally- start on my new build this weekend, child-related-activities allowing ....
One quick Q about the AIO (Corsair H115i Platinum) I'll be using on the 5950x. Does it matter re: the orientation of the pump?
generally no, makes no difference.
Given the insane GPU prices, does it make sense to build a system using AMD APU and then wait til GPU prices fall before purchasing?
no. buy a lower spec GPU and upgrade it later
edit - a APU is either enough for the job, or it isnt.
getting a gpu now is better if youre playing AAA games right now
To add to that it's not like you can get a 5000 series zen3 APU on desktop currently, so you're really shooting yourself in the foot getting an 3400g APU with only 4 zen+ cores in it.
you can get a 8c/16t 4000G series, but you're really paying through the nose for those.... you think the gpus are price gouging
So got around to installing the 5800x and had a quick play around for 20 minutes.
Ended up with a 4.9Ghz all-core using PBO2 curve optimiser and PBO offset which seems pretty nice. Chip seems fairly cool to be honest, about 78c in a heavy AVX workload, and about 65c in a heavy non-avx workload.
4.9 all cores. Happy days!
What ram are people putting with the 5900X lately that is dual rank?
I"m thinking 32GB of DDR4 3600 (2x16gb) but trying to find a dual rank kit.
I was looking at the crucial ballistix stuff but found that most of crucials 16gb sticks are now single rank and would like the option to still go to 64gb down the track if i find i need it more often. (Have occasionally hit the limit of the 32GB while running after effects encodes but not enough to justify the extra to go 64gb from the start.)
Still waiting on my 5900X from Pccasegear, picked up a x570 tomahawk through the ebay sale today, and I've got a 980pro 2tb and EK P360 Classic (Black Nickel) watercooling kit arriving this week.
I'm using the Gskill F4-3600C16D-32GTZR. It's 2x16gb dual rank Samsung B-Die, and it's been excellent.
Will happily do 3800Mhz CL14 with tight timings, and probably could do more if i could be bothered to learn judging from other b-die kits i've seen.
PC Case Gear certainly seem to think so: https://www.pccasegear.com/ryzen5000
Ryzen 9 5900X Next shipments due in April expected to bring us to orders placed by 13th December.
Ryzen 9 5950X All remaining fulfilled by the end of March.
yep, my 5900x should hopefully be in all that. (4th December order)
can you do a zentimings or other subtimings please? what voltage?
couldn't work out wtf any of that meant until I realized back orders from dec 2020 still aren't filled.
Really want a 5900x but basically impossible atm, shgould i settle for a 5800x?
No - you should get a 5950x - looks like they will be more readily available soon
thats way to overkill for me, even 5900 is but its what i want.
