When did they change from being rechargeable?

I always turn my main system off at the wall at night, other systems stay plugged in.

So the ETA on my 5900X with PLE has been pushed to 3/6/2021. Who was it that said the CPU shortage is over? That will be an almost 7 month wait since the order was placed.

People who know better than to pre-order stuff at PLE  I've been bitten enough times now to know better and look elsewhere for stock.

P.S PCCG have filled their backlog and have an ETA for 28/4. https://www.pccasegear.com/products/52255/amd-ryzen-9-5900x-processor

I should have mine from Umart tomorrow. Lesson learnt, don’t preorder anything from PLE.

Imagine if I would have paid upfront!

I'm glad you learned your lesson after the 4th time.

11th Gen and Intel still haven't.

Here I was thinking you were the stupid one.

Some lf us have to. Turning it off at the wall is the easiest thing for turning my lights / monitors off as well. Power bricks for the monitors whine when the monitors are powered off, its annoying.

That is utterly fucking annoying. It's got to be a few dollars in parts to make them rechargeable and seeing all the 2032 cells are rechargeable as well, stupid.

Must be a c**t on the server side, they'd have to change the batteries every 1 - 2 years at least, that's about when I have to change them in my home servers.

No doubt you'll have that installed before I have my 5950X set up - though I have at least started :D

Well my rig is all setup. I’d literally be just swapping CPUs.

My son is the real winner here, gets a free upgrade to a 5800X. It’ll be a fair boost over his old Xeon E5-1650 V4.

    Fortnite will fly!

I've at least put the CPU/RAM/SSDs into the motherboard. It's a start at least :D

Incorrect sorry. Lithium batteries are very different from Lithium-Ion batteries if that is what you thought. You can get rechargeable 2032 size batteries, but many are not 3 volt, and certainly won't be charged by the motherboard anyway.

I can't remember ever replacing one on a server. RAID cards with rechargeable battery backups excluded. A server simply plugged in to power will use standby power from the PSU to keep CMOS settings, if unplugged it will then use the battery. Plus servers are usually easy to swap everything on, slide out, lift lid, remove bad, insert new, close lid, slide back in.

So OJR , were you serious about Gigabyte being a player again on x5xx ? Everyone elses opinon ?

I'm a bit miffed by ASUS pricing this gen , Still clawing back respect for GB.

while their product is fine now, whats the ongoing support like ?
thats where GB have let me down before. ASUS arnt faultless of course, but they are a step in front on BIOS etc in my eyes.

They did release one of the more interesting motherboards of this series, with their VISION line. It's rare for an AMD board to have a thunderbolt connection for one thing - which is incredibly useful for a niche market segment. Plus it's also a thing of rare beauty.. that also paired wonderfully with the 011 case - like this Snow Vision build. On a technical level, the MB also ranked high in DerBauer's board shootout.

With the approaching silent series refresh of the b570 chipset (in gigabytes case it will be the b570s) i am disappointed that in the proposed lineup there is no VISION version planned - sad.

The only motherboard i've had that burned out was from gigabyte (smooth rma tho to be fair, unlike my experience with corsair) - and there was a long period where all of their peripherals were creaky, plasticky junk - but at the end of the day, any product will live & die on the test benches of independent reviewers. It should come as no surprise that a company as large as gigabyte, continuously excreting massive amounts of various products, will lay a few turds.
