Would it be worth upgrading to a 56-5900x from a 6700k@4.7 strictly for gaming this black friday? Or should i hold off for whats otw next year? From what ive read prices on the new intel socket boards/ddr5 just isnt worth it atm.

I went from 6700k to a 3900x, and then to a 5600x and saw a decent improvement in gaming performance each time (also particularly while streaming)

I could definitely be tempted into a juicy 5900x BF deal. I think you can currently get one for sub $700 from newegg but you have to pay with crypto lol.

Seeing the temps of the single ccd 8core 5800x makes me miss the heat spread of the 5900x :p

    I did 6700K to 3900X to 5900X

Happy as a pig in shit, especially if i could have just gone 6700k straight to 5900X. The general improvements in other areas of usage too were awesome.

Are ebayplus + afterpay themselves free though?

edit: Plus those combined discounts don't seem to be avail for me on ebay, best price on ebay ends up more than direct from a store still

I think they are giving a $40 voucher with ebay+ at the moment so it only costs $9 for an annual membership. I've already used my trial on the last round of sales

    $645 for a 5900x is tempting...

Hey guys, so I just got a Dell G15 5515 laptop with a R7 5800H, but Dell cheaped out and put 2 x 8GB single rank memory in there. I'm under the assumption that dual rank is the go with AMD? No idea about SODIMMs though, can someone point me in the right direction? Cheers

yup dual rank is better for ryzen

just be careful not all 16gb sticks are dual-rank mind you so be careful which ones you get

Single rank dual channel memory is not really cheaping out in the OEM market, cheaping out would be a single sided single stick with the other slot unpopulated. Vast majority of people including enthusiasts would be running dual channel single rank setups.

The difference between dual rank and single rank can be overblown at times, unless you are gaming at 1080p your CPU performance is not usually your bottleneck.

My G15 model has a 165Hz 1080P panel, so I kinda fall into the 'might be CPU bottlenecked' category, especially if I lower details a bit to try to hit 165fps. Might be ambitious on a 3060, but yeah.

I figure I can sell the existing 16GB and just grab a dual rank kit for a bit more. Thanks for the input guys, food for thought... guess it really depends on how much performance I'm leaving on the table. Will do more research into this.

Yep you are in the use case where it might matter actually. Good luck on your search, I have no idea with so-dimm kits. Maybe see how you go with current performance and look to make the change if you feel it's falling short.
