Remember how only like a week ago someone was saying this it'd be like zen+ again, a good improvement but nothing huge... seems like AMD are asking us all to hold their beer.

Its been known for a while that Zen 3 was something special. Word have been leaking out for months via the server side of things that Milan was very good. Just no numbers.

The next desktop release will be Zen+ like... at least I think it will be.

Damn that 5950X looks like outstanding value at $1250 imho.

So wait is the 5800x expected to beat the 5900x and 5950x for single core?

Essentially, chuck 100 bucks on top of the Zen2 series for equivalent chips

5800X has the highest base clock, it will really depend on cooling solution with each of the CPUs, and how high they actually boost.

If you were to set the same all core OC all 4 zen3 cpu's, id expect the R9 cpus too do better in single core based on the greater l3 cache.

    Be interesting to see.

I don't know if I understand overclocking a ryzen CPU correctly but, is all core OC only better for programs that utilise multithreading correctly? And if you are primarily after performance with games or chrome/etc, you should stick with the ryzen precision boost overdrive?

See this is along the lines of what I was thinking and given that amd has eluded to having oc headroom Atleast more so than zen2 I’d like to see on water what could be done.

my 3900X i have OC'd to 4.5Ghz on all cores. i could do 6 cores at 4.6 and 6 at 4.5, but was a bit too much voltage to make it worth it for 24/7

temps never an issue, but cant wait to drop a 5950X into this Asus x570 Impact, and see how far i can clock it! so good!! btw my 3900x at full load @ 4.5ghz all core never sees above 45 degrees.

that’s so good man! I’ve never bothered trying to oc my 3900x because I’ve always read that zen2 doesn’t have much head room. But I may have to consult you when I get my 5000 series! I’m looking at the 5900x and eager to try to push it a bit!

my 3900x is a decent clocker, does 1900mhz IF easy, and can do 4.5ghz on all cores, at good voltage, can push to 4.6ghz for benching, but not really worth the high volts for 24/7 uses, since there is a big difference between 4.5ghz all core and 4.6ghz all core.

looking forward to seeing the 5950X Overclockability compared to the 3900x, will be pushing for 5Ghz all Core OC, will see how much volts that takes.

Remember most of these don't come with coolers any more. Give the wrait prism seems to sell pretty well at $50 a pop.
$50 and each of these would be well and truely into their next price bracket.

Yeh for me the 5900x and the 5950x seem outstanding.

Remember the 5900x is likely to trounce the 3950x in multithreaded, and the 5950x is likely to be quicker than the 24 core thread rippers. Obviously in single threaded, these will be faster than any before them.

I can't quite get my 3600 to run a stable 4.5 all core, but it does it easy with fairly low volts at 4.4 all core.
Looking forward to seeing the 5950X in action, especially at the price, it will be the final nail in the coffin for Intel for at least a couple of years IMO, by every metric IMO. No more 'but Intel is better for gaming' cries from the blue team.
