I think I had some 2part epoxy laying around.

There's no guarantee that you will see the same problem.

Got a 9800x3d for my B860 Steel Legend on the latest bios.
What's the must have BIOS settings for a no thrills setup on Win11?

Normally I would recommend PBO2 to Curve Optimiser -30 All Core and Boost +200Mhz, but given you have an Asrock you may want to check that.

I am considering leaving the Intel camp after many years as I am getting more and more annoyed with my 14700k. The temps on this thing are insane, using a decent AIO, after the PC runs for few hours my idle is at 45-50C and even basic tasks like opening browser, switching apps makes the CPU usage spike and the temps goes to 80-85C. It then makes the fans on the AIO speed up and then slow down. Its getting super annoying now and Im quite over it.

So, I am considering jumping to the 9900X3D camp, from what I can see the CPU does spike in temps that much ? What can I expect in terms of thermals when paired with Kraken Elite v2 360 ?

Sounds like you might have a bad mount, dry thermal paste, or the AIO is failing. You should only be hitting 85C when the CPU cores are basically fully loaded, not just opening or switching applications.

it only jumps to those speeds. Doesnt stay there but it changes the fan speed when that happens. When gaming my temps are pretty standard for this cpu, eg 65-75C depending on game.

I remounted, fresh paste few times, no difference. Dont think AIO is failing, the 14th gen cpus get hot. Its just annoying with the fan ramp up / down behaviour.

I have a 9800X3D and it's great but to save you spending unnecessary cash just for the fan ramping noise, if you're not using it already give the awesome Fan Control a go and set a high hysteresis

Honestly i have had this under ryzen and intel, and for the last too many years i have had changed fan ramp speeds in bios to a 2s delay or so.

As mentioned by stiben above though, fan control is a genuinely better option and what i have now been using for a couple months. On the fly and it just works. No need to reboot to adjust curve constantly or when you realise you need to adjust

ended up getting 9950X3D and Asrock Taichi Lite. hopefully the latest 3.30 bios fixed the issues with Asrock boards (other manufacturers have also same issues but on smaller scale). Will flash the board to latest bios prior to installing the cpu.

Anyone here with Asrock board and 9000 series Ryzen and all working ok ? I love Asrock and have been using them for more than 10 years without a glitch. Lets see if my luck continues or ends here !

anyways, looking forward to join the AMD camp again.

9800x3d and Asrock Nova here, been working fine since day 1 with the initial bios. I've since updated to the latest but board and cpu have been solid as a rock. No complaints here at all with my first Asrock board.

do I have to get RAM that specifically supports AMD EXPO? or can I use RAM that has XMP ? Only got my 2x48GB 6400 Trident Royals recently and thought I can use them in the new AMD build but unsure now if it will work or cause issues later?

I just ordered X870E Taichi Lite and 9900X, will report how I go. Been a while since I built a new box from scratch but with EOFY looming and playing around with more AI stuff at home the current box is looking a bit dated. Rather than spend more money upgrading the current DDR4-gen (3900X) machine I figure buy new bits with more future-proofing. This board will let me run 2x GPU at decent speed.

Yeah I spent a while looking for 2x64GB kit approved for this board with EXPO but couldn't find one, so ended up going with a 2x48GB kit with EXPO, not on the approved list but essentially the same product as one that is on the list without EXPO. I figure the list might be outdated compared to what is available in the market.

Nice, pls let us know how you go. I wont get a chance to put all my parts together for a week or two as I am migrating to new case (NV7) and want to watercool also the 5090 I have and need couple more parts. I'll report back once I finish my build.

My nephew is having some issues with his new system - 9800X3D with Corsair H115i elite capellix , MSI Tomahawk B650, RTX 4070 Super, Win11.

He says when he is gaming everything is OK, but when he goes back to the game menu after playing, or browsing, or idling at the desktop, the system has locked up a few times where the screen freezes and requires a reboot.

The CPU idles around 57-58C and max temp at 98C. Not sure what the ideal temps are but seems a bit high maybe?

I already replace the thermal paste and remounted but the temps are the same.
Running AID64 stress tests and the CPU/RAM and then the GPU hasnt made it reboot, so I am at loss what the issue is.

Edit: I also set the AIO fan speed to max for a few minutes and didnt see the idle temp drop. The coolant temp is 32C.

    Any ideas?

CPU temp is a bit high but that shouldn't cause a crash.

Do a full uninstall of AMD processor/chipset drivers and reinstall. I had a similar issue with my AM4 system and drivers fixed it. I updated and it didn't fix it, needed a full uninstall/reinstall. I think it had to do with a power state driver or something.

I figured out my nephew's crashing, it was an old power board.

But the high temps still persist so I think his AIO isnt performing well. Its a number of years old now.

What AIO coolers are you guys using?
