Its very minimal. Welcome to the 5800XT. It will get you nothing in usability. Its simply about milking more money out of rich stupid people who can't wait.
Zen 6 is imminent. You absolutely want to wait for 50% more cores, 20% IPC, higher clocks, more cache, new instructions etc.

The 9950x3D2 is more interesting, if nothing else, its the only CPU of its type, and sits between the 9950x3D and the V-cache Epyc processors that cost ~$10k..
It won't be any faster is most workloads, but will be faster in factorio, strategy games, CFD, encyption/compression etc.

Actually AMD could have a bit of winner release if they specifically patch Factorio, Homeworld 3, Cities Skyline 2, Cyberpunk 2077 to take advantage of the 9950x3D2. That combined with updates for AutoCAD, Bentley, Fusion360, video editing/compression software would give it a very narrow niche. Like its good for these specific applications only. In those is could be 10-20% faster.

Game developers are going to be falling over themselves to patch especially for a CPU 0.1% of their user base will own.

I saw a 9950X3D go for $680 on eBay the other night. Should've jumped, was busy researching the NUMA arrangement.

I don't reckon half the bucket list will make Zen 6, especially if it's only got a DDR5-based IMC.
Either that, or it will be pushed well back and Zen 3+ will ramp up - or they'll tap a DDR4-compatible IMC for Zen 4/maybe 5.
Or they'll just route everything to Epyc, and scarcity on consumer-grade gear will go up.

    My money's on option C.

Gee that's a banger. I think there might be more of that if people can't complete builds among other component shortages. Unfortunately not much help if you're not already on a ddr5 platform.

No mate, I also think you're right. I'm waiting to pounce on a $500 9800X3D and that'll do me. I've got the luxury of having everything bar CPU ready to go for AM5. A rare treat, my usual upgrade cadence would've put me paying $1K for RAM this year. Yuck, and thanks to acap.

I was mildly salty that it went in literal minutes while I read, but I also wasn't because I wasn't keen on the TDP and would've wasted the chip mostly

Keep a keen eye on the FS forums when the 9850x3d drops, I know ArTy can't help himself :D

Sounds about similar to what the 9800X3D was when I got it ~$829. Will need to see reviews to see if the 3-4% difference is worthwhile for anyone with an X3D chip already, most likely not unless someone wants the best.

I don't have enough time in a day to game much anymore, so I'll try and not be impulsive :p

Would be nice if they have better memory speed compatibility.

Now where is the 9950X3D2? :Paranoid:

5750 so far from rumours. 5800-5850 would ne nice. Maybe next gen we will hit the magic 6000MHz, knowing it aint always about high numbers. Still remember the Pentium days pushing up the MHz every gen. Good times

low volume product, wont ship much, so its sitting still for far too long ?

seriously though, it'll be a vendor specific sku for sure
PRO with the vendor fuses that pop :(

Hmm a little lacklustre if that's maxed out PBO. CCD0 on a good 9950x3d can already touch 5.75 all core so it's likely there's been no process improvement and these are just tighter binned 8 core x3d ccds that would otherwise be in a 9950.

I agree with you, 5800+ gets a bit more interesting and would be new ground for x3d.

Like this post if you have poor inpulse control and buy silicon you don't always need.

Probably an issue related to me dreaming about owning my own PC when I was 10 at the department stores and could never afford it as a kid. The Voodoo graphics accelerators were so shiny and I loved the box art.

If the 9850X3Ds can get close to 5.9GHz id probably grab one...
