$120 US for a 2TB drive isn't too bad maybe I'll hold off until September to make my new file server.

    Any drive works in raid.

The more appropiate question to ask is, will it have TLER? the answer will most likely be no.

    No way man.

Make sure you read the raid cards hdd support or shoot em an email. Last thing you wanna do is buy 8 hdds and find they keep dropping out of the array

Be very carefull when buying drives for raids. Try not to buy green drives for raids esspecially the varried speed ones.

No, ANY drive will work in raid, i never said it is reccomended nor reliable.

Im using WD20EARS in my array atm, havent had an issue yet. TLER is overrated if you have a proper raid card/s

well your definition of work must be very different to everyone else on the forums.

Yes every drive will show up and can be added or an array created. But beyond that is completely up to the drive and whether it supports that card

I read somewhere (I think ARN) that these will be in the Aussie channel around Sept.

I think I can hold out that long to build my ZFS box!

I'm hoping they'll bring out a performance version of it ... 7200 rpm etc. Looking forward to seeing some HDTune benchies for this one though.

These drives look good but where are he 3Tbs :(

i have had drives that will drop out straight away or not let you create an array at all, so compatibility is an issue

i normally buy 2 drives and run a test raid 0 array just to make sure

I'm just glad I didnt go out and buy a whole bunch of the f3 2tb's yet.

Can anyone tell me what kind of speeds they get with the f3 2tb ecogreens in a non raid configuration?

Why ?? i doubt they'll bring much of a performance increase over the f3's and their only benefit is they use a insy bit less power

Well, one only buys these sorts of drives for pure storage, so why not just buy a w20ears right now for $155? It's got lower power than the f3 and has double the cache.

I do like my samsung drives, but why not just buy the wd right now instead of waiting?

The WD does not have TLER enabled, meaning that it WILL drop out of a RAID array sooner or later... but as a single drive it will be ok! ;)

Ah, ok. Yea, I'm not into raiding drives anymore as the capacities are large enough for me now, but that'll be a logical reason why they won't be for everyone. :)

just saying... WD does have a new WDTLER tool and WDIDLE3, maybe you are just using the wrong tool? and i'm pretty sure that the EARS drive are 3 platter.

I have turned mine on and set the head park to 30mins. nothing wrong with them and their cheap as ever.
