Normally there should be a small manual paper sheet in the plastic packaging, together with the 4 screws. Can you read it and see if it tells anything about the jumpers; do any of the jumpers allow native 4K sectors without emulation? Or are they alignment hacks for XP like on the WD EARS?

I have been following that as well. Though I think there is still some confusion about the models. I see that there are 2 different models listing in Europe. We might have to wait and see.
@eva2000. Those stats look really good, thats way I am so interested in them.

WD EADS = 2TB with 512 byte sectors; using 4x 500GB platters. Not as eco as the newer Samsung F4EG; but it's an option if you like to avoid 4K sectors.

Still no word on the hardware raid compatibility from what i can see

PS these are much more expensive than they should be (at $130 that is )

anyone know if these issues are exclusively to the ZFS file system and not the XFS system? I am considering a drive upgrade, however I use XFS for storage.

I have bought one and just dropped it into my array of 7X samsung EG F3s

it seems to play nice with my raid card and the array is currently building( i did have to destroy and recreate my array as the drive was a tiny bit smaller)

if i am awoken by a horrible beeping tonight then my response might change

Raid card is an Adaptec 51645 running 17899 firmware/drivers

I've got 8 of 'em running in RAID5 without a problem.

I'm using an Areca 1220 RAID card though, so don't know if that helps.

This is an important issue. Should I partition all my drives a little smaller as to make sure I dont have to destroy my hard drives if I get a drive that formats a tiny little bit less?

Also, I called up samsung support. Useless as I predicted. Just said there is no alternate firmware and thus useless for ZFS raidz

I know sub.mesa was testing some setups over in a hard-ocp forum post. He should have some more info on that.
